Someone stated that they believe 5A to be a terrible class. Which brought up a question I had.

What makes 5A such a terrible class?

 

Then I started thinking about other classes in the state, there really isn't any great competition in any of the classes when you look at it.

Most of the classes have 1 dominate team in them. You have your Trinity, you have your BG, you have your Highlands, you have your Central and you have your Mayfield. Class 2A probably is the one that is more of a coin flip than any of the others I guess looking back to when they went to 6 classes a few years back.

 

So what makes 5A so terrible in some eyes compared to other classes?

 

Man your ego is easily bruised. Maybe you should fix the title of the thread since you clearly just want to talk about 5A.

That is true and CCH would have a few more titles if they weren't in the same class as Highlands. Point is most years, Highlands plays a school that year in year out is one of the best in KY in all classes, in CCH. If Bowling Green were in the 4A or 6A I'm not sure they have any state titles.

Same thing could be said today, if no realignment who knows maybe BG wins instead of HHS. Conjecture is just that, conjecture.

BG is ranked nationally, CCH isn't. Just because BG wins today doesn't mean their are no good teams in their class, maybe just maybe BG is good.

 

You want to live in the past then what happened to the all mighty CCH last year? I see no wins against 5A schools.

I don't follow your 3A was weak and now it's not logic...same teams have met in all but 1 final of current alignment of 3A...nobody really challenging Belfry or Central. Yeah I know Wayne Co played Central tough last year but this is still a 2 team class without much depth.

 

Really? Paducah Tilghman has won a title since moving to six classes, Breathitt County has been a major contender, Fort Campbell has been very strong, Bourbon County is only getting better and South Warren seems to really be on an up-tick. It might not be great, but I don't see it as any less competitive than any of the other classes.

Only two teams have come out of the west, Tilghman 1 time and Central every other time. Ft Campbell was awesome in 2A but they've done nothing in 3A since realignment. Breathitt and Somerset have made 3A finals but Belfry has made the last 3 from the east and will probably make it again this year. Belfry really has no real challenge in the east consistently year in and year out.

 

3A is basically a 2 team Class, not any stronger than it has been.

For comparisons sake, here is a look at the number of teams that have won state titles in each class and have participated in the championship game since going to six classes in 2007. (I readily admit that this isn't the best method for determining best class, but is rather information some might not have)

 

Class 1A

-4 different champions (Beechwood x 2; Mayfield x 2; Lexington Christian; Hazard)

-5 different state championship participants

 

Class 2A

-3 different champions (Fort Campbell x 3; Newport Central Catholic x 2; Covington Holy Cross)

-7 different state championship participants

 

Class 3A

-2 different champions (Central x 5; Paducah Tilghman)

-5 different state championship participants

 

Class 4A

-4 different champions (Boyle County x 2; Highlands x 2; Lexington Catholic; Bell County)

Class 4A has Trinity and St X winning State Titles and when classes were expanded to 6 Classes that continued in 6A

 

Class 3A had 4 teams winning titles and when the classes expanded 5A and 4A was shared by the same teams that were winning in 3A with the exemption of Cov Cath winning in 2006 and Bell Co winning in 2008. Highlands Boyle Co and Lex Cath all won multiple State Titles. When Highlands was moved from 5A to 4A then you have Bowling Green winning 5A.

 

Class 2A had Boyle Co win in 2000 and then they moved to 3A and continued. When they left 2A had 5 different teams win Titles. When the class went to 6 Central had dominated 3A and FT Campbell and NCC has won multiple 2A Titles

 

Class 1A has Danville and NCC winning multiple titles when only 4 Classes. When the classes were expanded to 6 you have Beechwood and Mayfield winning multiple titles.
