Speaking to my friends in school who are Texas alum, they think they can get Nick Saban. Personally, I don't think that's very realistic. I would see John Gruden or someone whose got some NFL experience and has been out of the game doing commentary for a year or so being more realistic.

 

After last night, I think Texas will be getting a new coach next year though.

 

If Strong goes anywhere, I think Arkansas (he was born and raised there), South Carolina (he got his big start as an assistant there), Florida, Florida State, and possibly Miami are the ones he'd leave Louisville for.

 

Saban is building his legacy now, may be considered the best college coach ever by the time he retires (or sooner if Tide wins a couple more titles in next 3-4 years). I can't see him leaving just for more money, an honestly is there a number that Alabama could not or would not match?

Agree. I'm with you in thinking my friends from UT who say that are delusional. I just wanted to illustrate the line of thinking they have.

 

It's kind of like UK basketball fans who threw around Mike D'Antoni's name as a real possibility.

 

If Saban were to leave Alabama for anywhere, it's the NFL.

 

As for what the University of Texas COULD pay: between their branding (i.e., merchandising, owning their own network, etc.) and boosters (think oil money, old money from land & timber, etc.), there's quite a nice payday waiting to lure someone.

 

I just don't think money is Saban's issue if he's job hunting.

^ I think those universities you listed are all realistic. I would hope any school looking at Strong makes him NOT bringing his special teams coach with him as a condition of the hiring.

Florida will be the biggest threat to lure Strong away.

 

Texas job will be open but they'll have their sights set on a bigger name. USC might come open as well & their search will be similar to Texas.

I'm all for coaches getting paid. Charlie, though, went way beyond normal coachspeak to say how he was different. UL people, including people on here, FULLY believe him.
