August 29, 201313 yr Thoughts? Louisville has a very good team this year, and play a schedule favorable to them winning games. A traditional power in a football conference could try to scoop Strong if this year is as successful as last year- that's just a very real possibility and a compliment to the kind of coach he is. If he leaves for what he thinks are greener pastures, who are potential replacements?

A traditional power in a football conference could try to scoop Strong if this year is as successful as last year- that's just a very real possibility and a compliment to the kind of coach he is. If he leaves for what he thinks are greener pastures, who are potential replacements? Louisville moves into the ACC next year, so I think it would take a big, big name school to lure him away. The Cards are going to be one of the top teams in an BCS league year in and year out. Because the ACC has strong ties to Florida, it's only going to get easier now for Strong to use his ties in that state to get kids to the Ville. He's got a heck of a gig. I really think he'd be half crazy to leave Louisville unless it was to Florida, or FSU, maybe Miami. I only say those schools because of his ties to the state. None of those jobs are likely to open anytime soon. If he did bolt though, the first name that came to mind for me is Tuberville. UC is stuck between a rock and a hard place conference wise, and Tuberville is a proven winner who is a safe, solid hire.
August 29, 201313 yr I just dont see Charlie leaving for just any job. I think only certain jobs he would leave for Notre Dame, Miami, Florida State, LSU, Florida...... Has to be a top tier team.

August 29, 201313 yr Jurich has said time and time again, the only people he can't compete with in terms of money is the NFL. What are the pro's of leaving Louisville for another college program, that he doesn't already have?

What are the pro's of leaving Louisville for another college program, that he doesn't already have? Some things that might weigh in to a school that would match or slightly exceed the deal he has with Louisville: Florida Schools (i.e., Miami, Florida, Florida State): Stronger recruiting base (pun intended) Arkansas: Going back closer to home (he grew up there), coaching in the SEC, getting the Walton endowment if Bielema falters. Texas schools: Tradition, recruiting base, etc.
August 29, 201313 yr A football school. More passionate fanbase. High profile job. -What does "a football school" really mean to a coach? If he's making the money, most wouldn't care if it were a badminton school. - Louisville sold more season tickets this coming year than they ever have before. I'd say the fan base is pretty passionate about football. - If you're coaching just for a name, sure, maybe a "high profile" job might appeal to you. He won't make more money at any other college in the country.

The pipeline to Florida has always been open and flowing, so highly doubtful that would be a reason he would leave. The Arkansas angle, maybe... His girls are in Louisville, and I think that part of his family is the most important to him. I don't see a Texas school being a threat.

No matter how good the Louisville program is, it's still always going to be a basketball school first and foremost. 2) Not saying they aren't a passionate bunch, but you're lying to yourself if you think they come anything close to being as passionate as a lot of the southern school bases. 3) I think the good coaches all want the big challenge. I could see Strong inticed by the idea of returning a school like FSU or Miami to prominence.

His girls are in Louisville, and I think that part of his family is the most important to him. I don't see a Texas school being a threat. Just assuming he leaves though. Not even saying it has to be realistic to you. I really don't see any of the Texas schools being a threat either, just threw them out there to illustrate the tradition and recruiting base angle. Just more of an activity to debate on who might be a possibility. Example: I don't think Cal would leave UK in the immediate future, but if he were, I'd want UK to take a hard look at Shaka Smart from VCU.

But the difference in passion between the two sports isn't that great IMO. An example would be Texas. Huge football school, nobody even cares that they play basketball. The spectrum is nowhere near that broad at Louisville. 2.) They obviously aren't Alabama or LSU, but doubting the passion towards the football program is a little silly at this point in time, IMO. 3.) Strong is 52 years old. He doesn't have too much time to be completely rebuilding programs from the ground up. Why leave a program that still has lots of room to grow, for a program that may currently be at the same, or even a lower level?

Why leave a program that still has lots of room to grow, for a program that may currently be at the same, or even a lower level? These guys are competitors and love to be challenged. These type A personalities often get bored with situations and move on to the next challenge. It is how he climbed to where he is now... I know it does not make total sense and a lot more variables are at hand, but it is just how it works.
