Don't get me wrong, I would love to see him play at UK, but I believe he would be better suited to start out at a JUCO or even a smaller college then move on to UK if he proves he can play on that level. Anyway you look at it though, it would have to be a great honor for any kid in this state to even have UK be interested in you.

Did anyone see the story about owens on sports spectrum saturday night? I thought it gave people an idea of where this kid has brought himself from, and anyone who has watched him knows there's bigger and better things ahead for this kid. Maybe it would be to his advantage to play somewhere else other than kentucky, playing for Travis Ford would probably get him alot of minutes as a freshman that he might not get a UK.

Not that I feel he is not capable of playing at UK, because I think he is one of many things UK is needing this year!

Owens is a nice player but he is not a SEC prospect by any means. He would do good to maybe cross the creek and attend a school like Marshall or an OVC school and even that might be a bit of a reach..

I have seen owens play numerous times, he is a great player with an amazing future ahead of him. His story is inspiring to others. I am all for the promotion of any local player to the next level, especially the D-1 level but I do not think Kentucky will offer him a scholarship. With hard work, I believe he could walk-on. With that said, could we leave the character assaults on these players out. I understand the Boyd-Ashland rivalry but they are just kids.

Good to know that Tubby and other colleges are looking Kentucky kids and they dont have to go out of state to get a recruiter's attention

It's really good to know that they are taking KY high school basketball players into consideration, and who are we to say that a kid can't do something. There is no substitute for hard work. If someone like a Cameron Mills can walk-on, and contribute, and eventually get a scholarship, whose to say Owens can't do the same. Hey Owens, don't listen to these haters. The sky's the limit, go for it. The person who believes he can do it and the person who believes he can't do it are both right. Which one are you?

I don't know what these haters are talking about - Owens can absolutely play at the Division I level. I have seen basketball at every level for more than 20 years and I'll tell everyone right now that he has DI talent. I don't know about his grades or anything like that, but from a basketball perspective - he has alot of potential. Teams like UK, UMASS and whoever else was on that list don't pay attention to you unless you have talent. You don't average 30 points a game in 32 minute games in the state of Kentucky unless you can hoop. If he leads Boyd into the regional tournament and puts on a show, many of you will be surprised at where he gets offers from and eventually ends up.

Take Owens & his 30 points a game out of the Boyd equation and your looking at a completely different win/loss record for Boyd. So I would say without him there is not much hope of a regional appearance this year.

 

They still have to get past Fairview and I may be wrong but I feel this will be one of the biggest first game district tourney matchups in the 16th region this year. (The other being a possible Elliott vs Morgan first game matchup).

 

No it won't surprise me where he gets offers from, but it will surprise me if UK is wise enough to go after him.
