Does your school system allow your football team to practice, play, etc. on Labor Day?

 

I am asking because Boone County and Conner play on Saturday (normal JV day) and wanted to play their JV game on Monday but it is my understanding the Boone County school system will not allow any of their sports teams to play on a holiday.

 

Again, what does your school system allow?

It's been 20+ years but I still remember coach Odom saying, "It's Labor Day and we are going to work".

No practice, no games, no nothing on a holiday period. Volleyball team got burnt by this a few years ago, they ended up having to forfeit a finals game in a tournament they were in cause the games were played on Labor Day. (Volleyball team wasnt expected to make it to finals, so when entering the tournament it really wasnt an issue)

We always practiced at NewCath. Heck, it was our first day of classes at Hanover. That never made sense to me.

Our school system allows the coaches to determine if practice or games need to be played. So, if Boone Co made a deep run in the football playoffs they couldn't meet/practice on Thanksgiving?

Is Boone allowed to practice? Or is it both practice and games that are forbidden?

Not sure but my gut would be an exception would be made in good, inconsistent, school fashion.

Not sure on practice but I do not believe Boone will be practicing on Monday. On the game, the official word said quote:

 

"We tried playing the JV game on Monday but Boone Co. Schools will not allow us to play the game on a holiday (Labor Day)."

I know you are asking what each school system does and I don't have the answers to that, but IMHO personally think it is a completely stupid idea to practice. Most kids have been going strong since the dead period ended and it also puts a burden on families traveling for the weekend, etc.

 

There is so much going on this weekend, just let the kids (and parents) relax on Monday night and you will have a much more productive practice Tues-Thurs, or prior to your next game.

 

Never liked it for any sport at any HS level.

What is your opinion on kids that do all of that hard work and go strong all year long that don't get to play their JV game now. I think it is a tragedy.

At NewCath we practiced, but only after we cleaned up the hill from the fireworkfest party the night before. Not a fun thing to do at 8am

Why can't they play on Saturday?

 

I would imagine the No Game on Labor Day probably has something to do with school facilities not being open on the Holiday. Didn't this also come up on some basketball thread where teams could not play on a Holiday because facilities were closed? Maybe MLK day?

Turkey day is usually shorted - due to football practice. So not sure what this talking about....
