What can teams do to Stop Quentin Baker?

Featured Replies

It has been reported that Ashland's line is young and inexperienced. It has been reported that Ashland didn't seem to have much of a passing game against Newport Central Catholic. Yet the score of the was 37-26.

Is Baker able to carry Ashland?

Can Baker make Ashland's season?

Can teams stop him if they know ahead of time that Quentin Baker is the Touchdown Maker?

I suppose you'll find out in 48 hours.

Yea, but I need to know now. lol

Al Baker was the Gatorade Football Player of the Year in Kentucky in 1985. Had there been a Mr. Football, he likely would have won it. The award began the following season.

At Trigg County, Al rushed for 5,396 yards in his career, including 33 games of 100 yards or more. He averaged 6.9 yards per carry for his career.

Al still holds the Class 1A state record in the 100 meters at 10.70 seconds -- set in 1985. He could have played varsity basketball and baseball but did not. He was one heck of a wrestler but the school folded the program. One of the best athletes to ever come from the state.

Q has a big shadow to follow in, but it appears he is off to a great start.

Love the side-by-side comparison. If Quentin is half as good as Al, he will be one heck of a football player.

He will carry the team but IMO it won't be very far. NCC played an ok game, turned the ball over 4 times and the game wasn't as close as the score indicated. Great player though.

The young man as some explosive speed. Both his 80 & 46 yard runs were the result off poor tackling by the Breds. Q gets all the credit, because he never gave up and once he got to the outside it was......goodbye!!! Bottom line.......tackle low and don't let him get to the sidelines and make it a foot race because he will blow right by everyone. The kid is "scary good", and well on his way to being as good or better than his father. :ylsuper:

If Ashland is forced to pass it bodes well for the Rams.

As Chris Berman says, "You can't stop him, you can only hope to contain him." That's what I hope we do.............

I think you might be able to contain him but not stop him.

Things I would try and do

Gang tackle him-He is on the smaller side. The more he is hit the better chance of wearing him down.

Maybe run a six man front with two backers close to the line of scrimmage.

He's an edge player. I don't see him running A or B gap, they may try some stuff up the middle to keep you honest, but his bread and butter is C and D.

I think it was Lucasville Valley who used a five man front but they had each player gaped about two yards apart.

I believe it was a playoff game years back played at Lancaster high school and it was against a team that ran the ball a lot and had two really quick backs.

I have never seen anything like it.

Do not remember who won, but do remember it was a close game.

Have a better defense than the Tomcat O-Line.

Baker is going to be a darn fine back,, but if he is hit before he can get to full speed or to the second level then he will not hurt you.

Well for one thing you can hope its hot and humid and that he has to play both ways and gets cramped up again. Maybe traversing 236 yards helped bring the cramps on too.

Ashland uses mis-direction to get him the ball and to get to the edge. And they do that fairly well. Some of his runs were 80 and 46 I believe. But others were for a loss or no gain. So obviously if you can limit the long gainers you have a better chance.

He was not involved in the return game and would probably be fantastic there.............however I agree with not using him in that capacity yet. No need to until District games.

This is true.
