Sounds like when Thompson first took over.

I wouldn't be too tough on the new coach. One thing he is doing which in a few years should pay big dividends is starting a platoon system. A school that has been around as long as Boone has really need to play a platoon system.

 

The coach came in as Guru has stated, without much at QB. There were never any QB's developed in the system and when Lamb went down he had nothing to fall back on. The coach is in his first year and teaching a different scheme on both defense and offense, it isn't something you would expect players who have been there playing for 3 and 4 years to pick up right away. These things take time.

 

I say in 3-4 years Boone will be a toatlly different team.

 

To the bolded: if BC's coach is doing that, while I feel sorry for the seniors who will experience more losses than they otherwise would if the better players were playing both ways this year, in the long run it will greatly improve the program. Hopefully the Boone County seniors will put what is best for the program ahead of what is best for them and provide the leadership this season will require. Any coach can, if he wants to, implement a two platoon system. It's really tough on the W-L record the first couple of years a two platoon system is being implemented, and a head coach implementing a two platoon system has to have guts and be willing to deal with the fall out from the losses that comes with implementing a two platoon system. By the end of the season I expect Boone County to be a much, much better team than they were last weekend.

I've never been too fond of public schools having a two platoon system. Isn't that essentially making half of your starters kids that would otherwise be playing JV? Frankly if there isn't enough talent on the team to gain 100 yards, how does putting in the 11 backups make them a better team? Of course I understand the ideal situation, in which kids can focus on one position and rest more during games, but just because a school has a large total enrollment does not mean their football team is talented enough or deep enough to start 22 different players. How many public school high-school teams are deep enough to only play their kids one way? Maybe I should have started another thread for this.... LOL :ohbrother:

There is another thread on it Packman. And for the record I strongly disagree with you and furthermore the fact that a school is public vs. private has nothing to do with it. We sometimes get too caught up in KY about poor public schools when the issue is the mirror, not the fact that the school is public.

Additionally, there is a lot of overall talent on the current Boone team and using a two platoon system is ideal for them.
