The facilities upgrades in N. Ky. over the past 10 years are mind boggling. I know that is true in a lot schools across the state too. But go back ten years and I don't think there was a single turf field in N. Ky.

 

I think HHS put their turf in for the 02 or 03 season. CCH put theirs in for the 04 season (I think). BW may have been the same year. I think they were the first 3.

BigVMan23, I see that Lawnboy took you by Dixie. What were your thoughts? Were you able to make it inside at all to the locker rooms or weight room? Always looking for an outsider's opinion.

Dixie is past due for a new locker room and weight room.

I did a little driving tour of the stadiums of northern Kentucky a few years back and was very impressed by nearly all of them. But I believe I liked Ludlow, Bellevue and Dayton's the best! I'm a sucker for the little schools, I guess.

02 does sound about right. I think my son played their his soph year on the turf which would have been 02. He played that same year at BW on the grass. Remember that two- or three-game day BW hosted after it had rained and the field was torn to pieces? I think that was the last year of grass at BW.

One other cool way to "tour" the northern Kentucky stadiums is using Google maps. Because they are in an urban area, you can really zoom in on all of the stadiums individually and get a good look.

I actually liked Bellevue's as well. Is Daytons the one with the stone wall around it at the entrance? That one had some character as well and reminded me a little bit of Russellville's stadium in WKY. But it definitely needed a LOT of TLC and it had seen it's better days.

Dixie's was a very nice complex as well, but we did a quick drive by of it and I didn't see it for quite as long as I did some of the others. But what I saw impressed me. Didn't get to make it inside to see anything, though I would have if I had thought that we could. Would have loved to have seen all the gyms. The only school I went into was NewCath. We did get out and walk around Scott's complex as well, but didn't go inside anywhere.

Dixie is one of my favorites in the area, the only downside at Dixie is the stands sit too low to the field. If you are on the visitors side sitting in the stands you need to sit in the very top row so you can see over the players on the sidelines. I think if they had to do it over again they would make the stands a bit higher or put the field in a bowl like Ryle or Cooper's.

Agree with all 3 of you, always enjoy watching games at these older stadiums, especially Bellevue. BigV, you are correct on the Dayton stadium, it is most definitely in need of some TLC.

If nothing else he would have loved VMA's grounds. Beautiful place.

 

You are absolutely correct, good call. I wish I had more time that day to hit all the schools.
