I can leave the house, purchase an AR15, a kevlar vest, a Kevlar helmet, and enough ammunition to have 100 rounds for every policeman in the city where I live, and be back home in less than 3 hours. All perfectly legal. If the policeman who lives two doors down is issued those same things there is some sinister conspiracy to take away my rights. There are now millions of 'assault rifles' in the hands of citizens. Why would the police not be armed in a manner at least equal to the level of threat that they have every reasonable expectation to face? Once they carried revolvers and a few spare bullets. Then then got speed loaders. Then semi-automatic handguns. Police have evolved with the times. The times we live in,unfortunately, call for a greater level of preparedness. I have no problem with that. Who had problems with AR-15?

Doesn't make law or action right under the constitution in my mind. Those who are willing to restrict freedoms in the name of more safety deserve neither. You guys keep pointing to the results of some tactics or military style use and want think that 100% justifies it. There are plenty of tactics police can't use today that would make their job easy. Easier on police alone does not justify it. I and others on here just feel like were moving further down a slippery slope all because of a false sense of safety. I love how you guys say our examples of police mistakes are to rare so there is no need for change . But can't recognize the fact that police only need some this equipment in rarest of circumstances which makes it odd we would give them the equipment such as a bearcat . I don't understand why having hesitation on local police looking more like military, when did that become a crazy thought ? I'm not allowed to be critical ? You guys only allow being critical of branches of government you dislike? But I guess its easier for non critical thinkers such as a few of you to attack the messenger and not the message .

What I do have a problem with is the use of SWAT teams for routine law enforcement matters, things like student loan fraud, underage parties and gambling raids. I think the problem may be that the number of SWAT teams over the years, even in smaller municipalities, have exploded. It's expensive to fund so they use them, for things they never used to. That's what I find problematic.

Took me 10 seconds to find out it A.) wasn't a swat team, and B.) they were executing a search warrant as part of a criminal investigation. If you want to debate whether or not its stupid for police to use a drone (especially to find a baby deer someone has) and then bust in at gun point to take said deer, there is no argument. And please, for the sake of me not having to repeat myself again and again, pay attention to what is posted. Take your time and re-read if you have to. Nobody has said they are against the officers having semi-automatic weapons. I've said I am against them patrolling in military style equipment. Using military style tactics. I'm all for police having the appropriate weapons to keep the peace. I am not however, for them having weapons I or an ordinary citizen can't have. Do you understand? I've simplified it as much as possible.
