I'm sorry if I offended, but since the poster demanded the president's name be attached to the Affordable Care Act, I just thought it right that we should go back in history and start renaming other significant events to properly reflect authorship.

question 1 : Did both parties agree on the war in Iraq ? question 2 did both parties agree on Obamacare ? One key difference I notice in hard core liberal dem's is the inability to properly own bad choices . I have no problem saying the war is the middle east both past and present has been horribly thought out and mostly unsuccessful , and Bush II was a barely average president , he spent money we didnt have . And the creation of Medicare Part D was a horrible idea . But on the flip side very few if any, liberal D's want to be honest and critical of bad idea's such as Obamacare . I hope the whole thing sinks and Obama's presidency is forever tarnished. Not because I dont LIKE him --- it's BAD LEGISLATION !

Obamacare needs time to evolve. It's not a perfect plan, but the president deserves credit for addressing the problem.The bad aspects of the plan will become apparent, then they can be addressed and remedied. The right similarly attacked Social Security and Medicare in the '30s and '60s, now both are essential elements of American life. When it comes to health care, I have far more confidence in the federal government to "do the right thing" vs. mega for-profit health insurance companies, which were all too happy to "just say no" to those with pre-existing conditions.

Specifically, which two or three aspects of the plan do you find most troubling? For me, the pre-existing condition clause is most important. On the other hand, I question how the feds will be able to reach and enroll the 16 percent of Americans who lack health-care coverage. A big ad blitz will target these people, but I have my doubts.

If health insurance was like car insurance we would be better off. Pay for the little things (oil changes, parts, maintenance, repairs) on your own, no insurance involved. Insurance comes into play for accidents. Could you imagine what car insurance would cost if it paid for parts, oil changes, tires, brakes, and the like.????? We should pay for meds, office visits, outpatient procedures ourselves and rely on insurance for major things.

I love that idea...I know a lady that has a medical card for her children, she averages taking at least one of them to the ER once a month for everything from sniffles to "Boo Boo". I know that if she was paying for the ER visits they would stop and she would take them to the Clinic if they needed care...but she has no incentive to save money she just always runs them to the ER.

My biggest gripe is it fails to address the problem of escalating health care costs. We need a healthcare overhaul, I get that. The ACA doesn't even scratch the surface, it was rushed through so Obama could have something to "hang his hat on". It doesn't lower the cost of hospital stays. It doesn't lower prescription drug costs. It doesn't lower MRI costs. It doesn't lower insurance premiums and on and on and on and on....

I think SS can be tweaked. Medicare is much more difficult. As one who has always changed the oil myself in my cars, I basically agree with your health insurance/car insurance comparison, but would exclude meds from your list.

 

Another point needs to be made. Some Republicans argue that 100 percent of Obamacare needs to be scrapped. Then Congress would enact piecemeal the "worthy parts" of the plan, such as addressing the denial of coverage based on pre-existing conditions. If people really believe the GOP would do that given today's climate of hate in Congress (and on chit-chat boards), I've got a bridge for sale.

I could live with that, except for the meds and some o/p procedures. Astronomical cost without insurance coverage.
