Why White people don't see racism

Same thing going on today with Mt Dew and ATV's being funneled to rednecks to thin out the Redneck herd, one diabetes case or head injury at a time.

The difference is that I can easily find educated and well respected blacks who believe that about Reagan. You won't find educated and well respected whites who believe that about rednecks.

I typed about 5 replies and erased them all...not sure what to say or ask in response to that.

You did get that I meant the Mt Dew ATV thing as a joke...didn't you.

I did. Mitch Rapp changed the whole tone of the thread though.

I didn't read any of his post all the way through...I guess I'll go back and read a few of them to get up to speed.

I certainly didn't expect the article to make sense to everyone. Figured a black perspective was worth sharing. I'm sorry you feel it was racist but the discussion has to begin somewhere. I hope Obama's campaign advisors aren't looking for the next violent white on black attack and are hoping some of his policies take shape like they originally hoped. I'm sorry you feel that way. Despite our leader's perception of ineptness I still feel like they mean well. I'm sorry you feel otherwise.

I'm glad you shared the original link. It does give a different perspective and like I said earlier the magnet analogy was great, I will be using that. I don't think that the President or his advisers are looking for black/white issues to exploit either, but gave this case more attention due to the voice of his constituents.

As for the Bolded, I agree with this more than anything you or anyone has ever posted. I truly believe that every President that we have had, has tried to do what "They" thought was the best for the country. Did some of them make mistakes, yes. Do I agree with their politics all of the time, no. Jimmy Carter is widely regarded as one of the worst Presidents in history, but I am 100% confident that he did what HE thought was best for the country, as did Reagan, GHWB, Clinton, GWB and President Obama. Presidents as a whole get too much credit for the good and too much blame for the bad that happens while they are in office.

Just as I don't think any of the Presidents during my life had a hidden agenda against blacks in this country I also think it is ridiculous to think that President Obama is trying to cause more division between the races.

A. I liked it as well.

2. Correct.

D. Thank you.

First bolded - how is that deterioration quantified?
Excellent question and one that should have been asked much earlier in this discussion of one man's opinion on racism in America, as articulated in a BET editorial. However, the BET editorial is an expression of a racist viewpoint but it is the one that is politically correct in today's climate of racial politics.

Race Relations Much Worse Thanks To Obama And Holder

Division: A not-so-funny thing happened on the way to post-racial America. Under our first black president and "Great Uniter," polling shows a serious worsening of race relations.

Remember Los Angeles-based street artist Shepard Fairey's famous red, beige and blue Obama "Hope" poster for the 2008 campaign? In the heady days of early 2009, the New Yorker magazine's art critic declared that Fairey had "created the most efficacious American political illustration since 'Uncle Sam Wants You.'"

The week before that grandiose pronouncement, the then-new attorney general of the U.S., Eric Holder, made his own grandiose remark: "Though this nation has proudly thought of itself as an ethnic melting pot, in things racial we have always been, and we, I believe, continue to be, in too many ways a nation of cowards."

Holder vowed back then that his Justice Department "must and will leave the nation to the 'new birth of freedom'" promised by Abe Lincoln. But what has happened in the 4-1/2 years of Obama and Holder since then? Race relations have gone into a free fall.

According to a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll, the share of Americans who consider race relations "very good" or "fairly good" has plummeted from above 70% between 2009 and 2011 to only 52% today.

Perhaps most amazing is the poll's finding that just 38% of blacks in the U.S. — in spite of America's first black president being re-elected less than a year ago — hold a positive view of the current state of race relations. At the outset of Obama's presidency, by comparison, no doubt with Fairey's iconic, feel-good image in mind, nearly 80% of whites and some 63% of blacks had a favorable viewpoint on ties between the races.

Second bolded - just may be the single most disappointing thing I have read on BGP.
If that is true, then perhaps you should broaden your choice of reading material. Supporters of President Obama will be quick to blame George Zimmerman for the results of the polls discussed above. However, a fair-minded person might recall the very active roll that Obama, Attorney General Eric Holder, and Obama supporters such as Al Sharpton and NBC played in turning a local news story into a national story centered on racism. A fair minded individual might wonder why this story is worthy of national attention when an extensive FBI investigation; consisting of at least three dozen of Zimmerman's friends, coworkers, and acquaintances; found no basis for the allegation that Zimmerman is a racist.

My point is that the Zimmerman case is to blame for the deteriorating impression that Americans have regarding race relations in this country, but most of us would never have even heard about the death of Trayvon Martin had the Obama administration and its supporters not acted in such a way as to nationalize the story.

A similar thing happened previously, when Obama said that a white Boston policeman (whose partner was black) behaved stupidly when he confronted black professor and friend of Obama, Henry Louis Gates, who was attempting to break into his own house after locking himself out, but refused to identify himself to police officers. That bit of high visibility conclusion jumping culminated in the so-called "Beer Summit" at the White House.

So, while you may be very disappointed to learn that there are many Americans who, like me, deplore the Obama administration's attempts to divide Americans along racial lines, we do exist in fairly large numbers and there is ample evidence to support our position. The Trayvon Martin story has been in the headlines so long that people tend to forget that the story went national during a hot presidential campaign, the outcome of which was still very much in doubt. There was a reason why the ZImmerman/Martin story was pushed onto the national stage. Your disappointment will not change that fact.

I certainly didn't expect the article to make sense to everyone. Figured a black perspective was worth sharing. I'm sorry you feel it was racist but the discussion has to begin somewhere. The article certainly made sense to me, I just recognize that racism is not confined to a single race and I also recognize the double-standard that allows race-centric organizations such as BET to exist without much criticism. I have been very disappointed that Obama has not distanced himself from obvious racists like Al Sharpton and that the Justice Department has been so politicized under his leadership.

Based on the rhetoric and actions of the administration, one would conclude that racially motivated attacks on innocent white people are extremely rare and that black-on-black crime is a much smaller problem than white-on-black crime in this country. Almost invariably, in big city newspapers around the country, including the Washington Post (my local paper), when there is a story about a large "group of youths" attacking one or two other people, the article involves a mob of young black men attacking members of another race. That rarely, if ever, happens when multiple white men attack a black man or woman in this country. Yet, there has been no outcry from this administration about the common game of "Knockout," in which most "players" are black men and most victims are not.

Single 'knockout' punch probably caused Michael Daniels' death, Onondaga County Medical Examiner testifies

Syracuse, NY -- Michael Daniels died at 51 from a blow to the left side of his face, which caused his head to rotate and hyper-extend to the point that an artery near his brain stem severed.

Blood from the torn artery began to pool at the base of his brain and his body stopped receiving the brain's signals to perform such basic functions as breathing.

The blunt force trauma that led to his death could have come from a single, closed-fist punch, the Onondaga County Chief Medical Examiner testified today during the Family Court trial of a 16-year-old homicide suspect.

Please note that nowhere in this article is the race of the killers mentioned. Nor is there any speculation that the attack might have been racially motivated. This story and the manner in which it is being covered by the media (local - not national) is not an uncommon one. My question is why are such stories not nationalized by the Obama administration and his supporters if they sincerely want to discuss racism in America? I believe that most people know the answer to that question, whether they are comfortable admitting it or not.

The difference is that I can easily find educated and well respected blacks who believe that about Reagan. You won't find educated and well respected whites who believe that about rednecks.
In a country with a population of more than 300 million, you can find educated people who believe almost anything. That does not make them right. Congresswoman Maxine Waters, who espouses the the preposterous theory that Ronald Reagan was responsible for widespread crack cocaine use in inner city neighborhoods, has a BA degree. Not all "educated" people are smart and having a college degree, or even multiple college degrees, does not transform one's opinion into fact.

I knew about the Trayvon Martin case before Obama ever spoke on it. The media had more to do with Obama speaking on it than anyone or anything else.

Stories of whites being attacked by a mob of blacks does make the news. The difference in those cases is that justice is served way more often than not in those situations. Show me a situation where blacks attacked innocent whites and the blacks that did the attacking weren't arrested immediately and then thrown in jail. I could understand your point better if those blacks were acquitted because they claimed self defense. That is where this whole conversation is supposed to be at. Your beef is that these things aren't national news, correct? Trayvon Martin was national news because he was killed while being 17, unarmed and seemingly racially profiled and the guy who killed him wasn't arrested immediately. Hell, it took public outcry just to get him charged. The beef black people have in this situation is that if GZ was black and Trayvon was Hispanic, GZ would have been arrested immediately and would still be in jail with an impending life sentence.

To believe otherwise is naive.

I knew about the Trayvon Martin case before Obama ever spoke on it. The media had more to do with Obama speaking on it than anyone or anything else.
So did I, which is why I was careful to include Obama and his supporters in my analysis. Obama has no bigger supporters than GE, NBC, and MSNBC. It was NBC who doctored the recording of Zimmerman's conversation with a police dispatcher to make Zimmerman sound like a racist. It was the media who repeatedly juxtaposed a photo of a 12-year old Trayvon Martin against an old mug shot of George Zimmerman.

Stories of whites being attacked by a mob of blacks does make the news. The difference in those cases is that justice is served way more often than not in those situations.
Justice has not been served in the case of Zimmerman because he should never have been charged in the first place. Had the media shown the photo of Zimmerman with an obviously broken nose and the bloody photos of the back of his head as often as they showed the photo of Martin as a young child, the public outrage over the decision not to charge Zimmerman with a crime would not have occurred.

Whether you agree with the verdict or not, the decision by the Obama administration to continue to consider filing a federal hate crime charge against George Zimmerman, despite the results of its own FBI investigation and despite Zimmerman being acquitted in the face of a very biased state prosecutor and judge, smacks of politics more than justice.

Show me a situation where blacks attacked innocent whites and the blacks that did the attacking weren't arrested immediately and then thrown in jail. I could understand your point better if those blacks were acquitted because they claimed self defense. That is where this whole conversation is supposed to be at. Hell, it took public outcry just to get him charged.
The public outcry was manufactured for political reasons by selective editing of the media's "message" and the withholding of exculpatory evidence from both the public (while the public outcry was being generated) and from Zimmerman's defense team. No evidence was presented that suggested Zimmerman racially profiled Martin.

Martin was walking in the wet grass during a shower near apartment buildings, late at night, in a high-crime neighborhood. Do you not believe that many white people have been reported as "prowlers" for similar behavior? I live in an apartment complex and if a "child" between 5'11" (ME's measurement) and 6'2" (family's claim) walks in the rain, late at night, within a feet of my patio door and then continues on a path taking him past my neighbors' windows anddoors, I am going to report him, regardless of the color of his skin. Why so many people find it so hard to believe Zimmerman found Martin's behavior suspicious is probably the most difficult thing for me to understand about the incident.

The beef black people have in this situation is that if GZ was black and Trayvon was Hispanic, GZ would have been arrested immediately and would still be in jail with an impending life sentence.

To believe otherwise is naive.

To believe that is Trayvon Martin had been a volunteer neighborhood watch guy who called police about a Hispanic man behaving suspiciously in his neighborhood and subsequently shot the Hispanic man in self defense after said man broke his nose and pounded his head into the sidewalk is naive. Even if he had been charged, the reaction by race baiters like Sharpton would have been so swift, the charges would have been quickly dropped. Martin's willingness to step up to the plate to help police fight crime in his neighborhood would have been portrayed entirely differently than it was when the media believed Zimmerman was white, and then later decided that he was a "white-Hispanic."

As for justice, trying a 16-year old "youth" in family court for killing a 51-year old man who was guilty of nothing but standing on a sidewalk is not justice. The "flash mob" crimes that are commonly reported in local media are rarely mentioned in national headlines. How many participants in such crimes do you think are actually brought to justice? How many 16 or 17 year black "kds" who play the Knockout "game" are ever tried as adults? Most white Americans have no idea of the scale of such random black on white crimes in this country because the national media simply refuses to give it the coverage that it deserves.

In contrast, George Zimmerman was mistaken for a white man, was acquitted of a crime, and now must fear for his life because of the racists who would kill him on sight. If you believe that is justice, then you are naive.

I see racism in this country, but I see it as a two-way street. Liberal policies in this country are destroying inner city neighborhoods and politicians like Obama are stoking the fires of racism to divert attention away from the real culprits. Jobs are a great equalizer in this nation and there are too few of them available to persons of color, and talking about white racism (as opposed to racism in general) is not going to put anybody to work.

To believe otherwise is naive.

I know of a case personally, a friend's son and his friend were attacked in Cincinnati near the bridge waiting for a ride after working a ball game, got jumped twice in the span of 30 minutes (their friend was late picking them up) by 2 separate groups of black youths. All the cops said was they likely won't find them and to consider themselves lucky.

Bottomline for me, it's the content of character over skin color.

Same thing going on today with Mt Dew and ATV's being funneled to rednecks to thin out the Redneck herd, one diabetes case or head injury at a time.

Thanks, just spit up coffee all over over the place. :lol2:
