July 16, 201313 yr Author My response was not to say the 90s didn't have great centers. I think some are too young to remember the quality of centers in the 70s. Plus scoring was easier in the 90s due to NBA rules about defenses. You can't go wrong with any mentioned. I'm partial to Moses. So am I, he led Doc and my Sixers to the promised land. Plus he was a mentor to a young Akeem and spent his summers helping him get better.

July 16, 201313 yr I have a soft spot on my second tier list for Bill Walton. I really hate that he fought injuries for so much of his career. I would put him on there with Malone, Hakeem and Robinson.

July 16, 201313 yr Moses Malone entered the (ABA first I believe) NBA out of high school. Hakeem Olajuwan FINISHED college at Houston before entering the NBA. I'm not going to let the inflated stats influence me. Hakeem was the better athlete, and played in an era when there was a lot of competition at his position (Robinson and Ewing to name 2). Inflated stats. Ummmmm...ok then.

July 16, 201313 yr Cowens - 2 titles. Good job mentioning the Kentucky guy. There are a lot of other centers that have 2 or more titles. I was only listing the ones in the discussion for top 4 of all time.

I know, I just always think the title count is way over inflated when measuring the best players. It is a measure but for many it is the only thing they look at. A lot of great players never won a title or only got one, but that doesn't mean they were not great, just not on a great team.

I have always felt the same way about Super Bowl rings defining NFL QB's. It is good information to include in comparisons, but it is not a defining piece of info.
