I love Jumper Dad. Not in the Vermont, Massachusetts, California kind of way, for the record. Although in those states, I suppose I could love Jumper Dad on my porch too.

Love you too Doc! Just not in a pick-up doing 85 MPH down I-75...that's against the law!

So eliminating speed limits will help traffic? I can only imagine rush hour with half the people trying to drive 55 and the other half driving anywhere from 60-100 MPH. That would work out great.

Exactly, those driving 100MPH would get home twice as fast, which would free up the highways quicker for the slow drivers.

Although I'd love to be able to drive whatever speed I want, I just don't see how this is a good idea. Especially in school, construction and residential zones. You mean to tell me you are ok with someone doing 100 right in front of your house or in your neighborhood where your kids play?? What I do think though is speed limits are generally too low. It's just about impossible to drive 25 miles an hour, and on highways, most everybody ignores the speed limit anyway. I'd be completely fine bumping everything up 10 mph or so, and I think you'd get just about the same results your looking for.

Oh it's against the law to run over someone, if you run over someone then you would have to face the music so to say. But responsible high speed driving should not be legislated.

Speed limits are just a way the government takes more money from us all.

Look it's not like everyone will be driving 100mph, just those that feel they can do so responsibly. The rest will continue at or below current speed limits.

To be honest I thought this thread was sarcasm. Now I'm not sure :lol2:

I've been out of town and only checking BGP sporadically on my phone.

I read the first few posts of this thread and wondered just what medication ole JD was on. LOL

I'm still a bit confused, but entertained at least. I guess the answer is somewhere in the "files" that piled up while I was away.

Exactly what I thought you are making a sarcastic post trying to compare another issue we just discussed.

1. Roads are public property, so the government has a right to set laws on those roads. As long as they don't infringe on constituional rights such as privacy etc.

2. Speeding and DUI's are saftey hazards on public property. Public property means saftey hazards affect more than one person. The government currently restrict the use of alchohol and tobbaco which are legal products on public property. I would and I am against the government restricting the use of those two legal products on private property.

If you are going to make comparisons at the very least make them accurate.

I thought you were Mr Anti-Govt power to the people, I thought for sure you would support this. Don't you think speeding tickets are just another way to get money from the public?

1. Public property belongs to me as a tax payer. I can't do what I want with/in my own car, as long as I don't hurt anyone else?

2. Reckless driving is already against the law, If someone is driving in a reckless manner hold them accountable. DUI is illegal but it could be argued that it should only be illegal if you wreck or cause harm to others...otherwise your just potentially hurting yourself.

Great thread. Quality stuff Jumper Dad

One could make an equally smarmy thread about making everything that's bad for a person illegal. Wouldn't our society, health, and spending be positively affected if it were a felony to posses food with more than 30 grams of processed sugar?

Go for it, but I thought you guys were all for less government intervention not more.

My thread is about throwing off the shackles of ill thought out speed limitations set by our Government Overlords!!!
