Christian County - Top All-Time 3 Players

Featured Replies

1. Jerry Reese NG. Was the anchor for CCHS 1982 4A title run. Dominated most games he played for the Colonels. Had a stand out performance against Dermontti Dawson in the state's semis with 3 sacks and picked up a fumble for 65 TD. 3 year starter at UK, played 6 years with the steelers.

2. Mack Majors RB. Started for the 1982&1984 4A Title teams. Only school outside Louisville to do so. Not one of the the most talented players to play for the Colonels but was one of the most effective players in the schools history. Made a living running trap and outside veer to perfection. Smart hard runner who was the schools all time leading rusher when he finished his career.

3. Keith Tandy QB, DB. Broke all the school records for QB's. A duel treat with his arm and his legs. Great leader and a class act. 3 year starter for West Virginia and lead the team with INT's for 2 years. Currently playing for Tampa Bay.

Honorable Mention:

Tony Mcombs LB- 2 time All-American for EKU. Played 3 years in the NFL before a freak injury ended his career.

Rod Smith RB - Over shadowed by Majors in the early 80's but rushed for 1,000 3 years in a roll. Maybe the fastest player to ever played for the Colonels.

Bubba Tandy WR, RB DB- One of the most talented players in school history. Could play any position. Once return 4 punt returns for TD's and a fifth called back in one game.

Anthony Hicky Qb- Crazy quick feet with a good arm. Currently starting PG for LSU and lead the nation with steals.

Perfect way to start a thread for this tt, thanks!

Yes they were indeed.

They finished 14-0 that yr after dropping an exhibition game to Highlands in the "Granddaddy of them all Bowl games" The Recreation Bowl in Mt. Sterling.

Man those were two heavyweights right there.:thumb:

They really lost to Highlands in their first game. 3 starters were not allowed to play for missing a team meeting. I believe CCHS was the first team to win the 4A title with all the playoff game on the road. Had to beat no.1 rank Owensboro and then no.1 rank Lex Byran Station who had 3 players who ended up playing in the NFL. Maybe one of the best defensive teams in state history. Gave up less than 8 pts a game with not allowing a first quarter score all season. Fort Thomas that year had some really tuff men on their squad. Two great teams for sure!!

Going to have to agree to disagree.

Highlands was the first ever team in KY History to go 15-0 and I do believe they only gave up a little over 3 pts per game all yr.

FWIW, Highlands was #1 in every poll that yr including the overall Lit rankings, Cantrell ranking and AP rankings. Final USA Today Super 25 #17.

Agree though, Christian was one heck of a team and the Big Trophy confirms that. :thumb:

The 1982 Highlands team is considered a top if not the top Highlands team ever and that is compared to 21 other Championship teams...JMO

Actually this site: http://www.kyhssports.freewebspace.com/fb1982state.pdf

shows HHS as #2 overall in the state at the final regular season Lit rating.

What happened to Adrian Allen? I played against him. Very talented receiver.

Allen went on to play for Morehead. Good player not sure how it turned out for him.

No argument here that Highlands team was special.

Never did like LIT Ratings for obvious reasons.

Nice work on the clippings, never knew the best team in the state would lose in a first round playoff game.

Maybe you can do a little more digging and post the rest of the rankings including the USA Super 25 for us as clearly the two best teams in the State in 1982 were Highlands and Christian Cty. :thumb:

Actually found that site on here sometime back. If you go to the homepage of it you will find all sorts of material back to the early 60's. Great page.

I too never cared for Lit rankings and the like. Too often I would scratch my head as teams we beat were scored higher than us even if we beat them and had a better record.

How about the player that was hurt that signed at UK and is now with Kerry Fowler?
