Tebow signed by the Patriots?

Featured Replies

This here. Just because he meets some of the physical traits of a TE, it does not mean he will be a TE.

On some level I think the Pats took Tebow just so they could show the Jets that they can thwart a circus.

If anyone can get something out of Tebow, it's Belichik. And I think if the Patriots felt like they needed a TE, they would have gotten a TE, not a QB who's never played the position and doesn't fit the physical description of a TE. I wouldn't expect to see much of Tebow this year even if he makes the roster. No way he beats out Mallett for the number two spot (the Pats are pretty high on him according to most reports). Which means he's the number 3 and inactive every week and can't play unless Brady gets hurt. To use him in the Wildcat (or some version of) they'd have to inactivate Mallett. Tebow has completed under 50% of his passes over his career......that won't work in the Patriots system (or any NFL system). He'll be the number 3 and given the chance to learn and improve....assuming he makes the team.

I haven't read this thread but one report says Bill has been quoted as saying in the past that he doesn't think Tebow can play and that the only reason he did this was as a favor to Urban.

We'll see.

the only reason he did this was as a favor to Urban.

This is what I am thinking.

Does anyone REALLY think the Patriots organization would allow Belichick to sign a player as a favor to anyone?

Why would it be a favor to Urban?

It has been widely reported that Belichik is quite close to Urban Myer. The NFL is still an old boys network, and guys always do favors for and take care of people that have been good to them. I don't know and can't quote any specifics, but this sort of thing happens all the time.

I just don't understand why it would be considered a favor to Urban, why would he care that much?

Making a $700K player decision....as a favor?

Yes.

He has to earn his spot. If he's good enough to earn it then they are paying him the league minimum. If he's not good enough to make the team then nothing los.

New England is the best spot for everybody. Good luck, Tim. I can't stand him but I didn't want to see him not in the league because of the media. That would have been a shame.

It's league minimum, and not guaranteed. If he makes the team it's a bargain. If he doesn't, they aren't on the hook for the full amount. And he does a favor for one of Urban's boys, and continues to get information, and access to guys who might not be on the radar that Bill can get for cheap in the future.

No, anyone who follows the Pats knows that's not how they operate.
