Conner - Top All-Time 3 Players

Featured Replies

From Clyde:

No chance I can name only 3 but I'll list who I would put in the convo for Conner.

70s: Dennis Ashworth

80s: Jim Dorton, Jim Pitzer, Melvin Miles

90s: Not an era I can remember a lot of players - need some help here.

00s: Trevor Stellman

10s: Drew Barker, Cam Fogle, Nick West

Of course , linemen always get short-changed in these discussions.

Make the tough choices again Clyde and get it down to three players for us.

No chance I could ever get it down to 3. Partly because I'm biased towards a few partly because I didnt see as much of the 90s teams as I would need. As my guy QS says I'm clueless. That would apply to the 90s.

But... if you pressure me I'll say

Jim Pitzer (the original Cam Fogle)

Drew Barker

Dorton/Stellman/Fogle

That's as close as I can get.

Sidenote: QS mentioned Troy Cole in the other thread. Tough, tough kid. However, I'm biased towards his older bro Todd who is the toughest dude I've seen at Conner.

I haven't followed them a whole lot but I was in school there in the 80's and I think you have to have Melvin Miles on the list as he had over 2000 yards and won their only State Title. Of course, that Senior class was loaded and he had a lot of help. There were some serious athletes in that class (they also won State in wrestling with that class).

While I thought Stellman was every bit the QB Barker is "on the field", I think you have to have Barker as one of the three as he has accomplished so much "off" the actual playing field and has probably garnered as much attention as any NKY QB Nationally.

There are so many others that could have an argument for the third spot and I have not seen most.

Your forgetting George Duvall

Your forgetting George Duvall

We discussed him in the other thread but you are right. Definitely deserves to be on the list. I seem to remember listening on the radio to a game against Highlands where he had a huge game in a Conner win.

Remember that game Clyde. We came out on fire in the first half. They fought back in the 2nd half. Our kicker kicked a 35 yarder to tie it up. In OT we held them to a FG. I looked right at Coach Stellman and said 1 play. Duval up the middle for a TD. 1 of my favorite games I ever played in.

Barker for sure as the Top player and then I would throw in Melvin Miles. That guy was blazing fast and led them to the State Finals.

Fogle would have to be up there as well with Stellman.

I know Im not following the thread title, its tough to pick 3, I'm not even going to try. Im just going to throw some names out that could easily be in anyone's top 3...

Individual Names:

Nick West

Drew Barker

George Duvall "The Bowling Ball"

Trevor Stellman

Dustin Alvey

Jeremy Bolton

Dutch Kennedy

Bill Samad

Matt Botts

Victor Singleton

Scott Kuhn (a much better D Lineman than TE in my opinion)

Families:

Both Cole Brothers

All 3 Wolf brothers

All 3 Fogle brothers

Both Warner Brothers

Scottie Buckler Conner High School's version of the ESPN 30 for 30 "The best that never was" He could have gone down as one of the greatest, but due to some personal happenings, he had to quit playing after his sophomore season. Anyone who has been around Conner athletics or even the Boone County Pee Wee league for a while knows him

What year did they go to the state finals? I asked that in the other thread and it got locked before I got a response

I am thinking runner up in 1981 and State Champs in 1983.

1983. Miles was a beast.

This is correct.

I must have done a poor job blocking for you, hoss.

The TD was on 3rd down ... then the back flip ... (1st down gain of 4--444ICE/2nd down gain of 3--446ICE/3rd down 3 yard TD--444ICE)

As far as Duval goes ... he ended up right around 2600 yards ... in 13 games (2 less than Melvin played in his senior year .. and yes .. I know he missed time in a few with injuries--not to mention that he was in the backfield with 2 other good RB's and a QB who could run a little as well). Duval's junior year--he played in the first 4 games of the season .. and was right at 1000 yards.

As of now (not counting this coming season) my three:

*George Duval

*Melvin Miles

*Trevor Stellman

Impressive memory, my man.
