Ohio State president takes shots at Notre Dame, Catholics and the SEC

Featured Replies

Ohio State president Gordon Gee has talked himself into hot water once again.

According to the Associated Press, Gee made remarks during a December meeting of Ohio State's Athletic Council about Notre Dame, Catholics and the SEC that won't be taken too kindly.

When talking about the long courtship between the Big Ten and Notre Dame, Gee shared his experiences in dealing with the school.

"The fathers are holy on Sunday, and they're holy hell on the rest of the week," Gee said. "You just can't trust those damn Catholics on a Thursday or a Friday, and so, literally, I can say that."

Gee is a Mormon.

Notre Dame and Catholics weren'tthe only targets of Gee's jabs, as he made sure to take some shots at the SEC and Louisville as well.

When talking about what the Big Ten was looking for in a school during expansion Gee said the top goal is to "make certain that we have institutions of like-minded academic integrity. So you won't see us adding Louisville." Gee went on to say the Big Ten wouldn't be adding Kentucky, either.

Then, after being asked what his reponse would be to SEC fans who say the 14-team Big Ten can't count, Gee responded with "you tell the SEC when they can learn to read and write, then they can figure out what we're doing."

I'd like to see them play a brutal SEC schedule. Bama would crush Ohio State like they did ND last year!

OSU Pres needs to shut his pie hole and let Urban do his talking for him.

Just another reason nothing good comes from anything Ohio.

This isn't a football issue. This is an Ohio State issue since he reps the entire OSU community. It's also not the first time he's put his foot in his mouth.

Sounds like he was in casual conversation with a buddy. All of us have/would say similar things about opponents or competing businesses. His problem was it wasn't with buddy over a beer. When you're a public figure like that you have learn to censor yourself.

Yep, and from everything I've gathered OSU alum and supporters have had it with this idiot. He makes the entire university look stupid whenever he opens his mouth.

This comes out of the "Ohio State Athletic Council" meeting? I'd have someone's head. People say things everyday that aren't for public consumption. As Ray Zalinski said, "What the American public doesn't know is what makes them the American public."

You know as much as I am a Notre Dame fan how about humor being just that. Humor. I really see nothing wrong except he made fun of ND Louisville UK and the rest of the SEC.

Those comments are just funny.

I don't see anyone at ND, Louisville or the SEC losing much sleep over this.

I saw nothing wrong other than WHERE he said it. It'll be forgotten soon enough.

Go Colonels....err coneys!

For those upset does this mean they actually care about academics in the SEC west?
