Region coin flip for home team

Featured Replies

Winning your district should at least give you home field advantage. NCC and Conner each won their districts but had to play as visiting team. NDA has not lost in their region and because of a coin flip they could be visitors against Boone. It does not make much sense.

Totally agree. That was silly tonight. Where and when did that come into play?

Even though HC benefited from this I still say that they should have been vistors, may have had a big effect in the NCC game.

According to the AD at Holy Cross this is what the KHSAA says is correct. However, if you go and look at the regional information they list the top team on the bracket as home team. No real benefit for winning your district.

Bottomline: hit and play "D" you live to see another game, if not....thanks for playing and we'll see you next season.

10th Region District Winners were home team in first round. Semi's and Final rounds were flipped.

Should be district winners in first round are home. Still have coin flip at draw. higher seeded teams should be home all the way through. Use coin flip from day of draw if like seeded teams play each other.

I always thought that the top team of the bracket was the home team?

It is. District winners are always on the top line in a bracket in the first round. Second and third round games the home team is determined simply by the top team in the bracket, i.e. luck of the draw (no different than a coin flip).

Not in Region Nine. First two games district runner ups were home team, due to coin flip prior to start of game.

I just looked at the KHSAA Region Manager page and you are correct, but it appears that is only the case in softball. It makes no mention of it in baseball. Curious.

Each region shall draw teams into the appropriate bracket in Appendix D of this manual. The

district winners will wear the light colored jerseys and occupy the third base dugout. A coin flip

at the regional tournament meeting or at the pre-game conference will determine the

home team.

But the bracket they send is: http://khsaa.org/forms/br308.pdf

Yes, i am aware of this rule and where it is posted, but this rule makes no sense. A team should at least have one game with home field advantage for winning their district.

My point is that their information contradicts itself. The rule states one thing and the brackets the KHSAA sends out lists District winners (Home) and then the top team in the bracket as the home team. I guess that is just to determine uniform color and 3rd base dugout assignment.
