Ryle 12 Cooper 8

As far as the Cooper player being ejected. Wasn't there a similar controversial ejection on the same field between Conner and ????. I believe it was a play at the plate between the catcher and a runner. I know it was two different teams but could it of been the same up?

Similar in that they were both bad calls. I can't say for sure but it might have been the same ump.

Or you could sign up next year and give the kids the what they really deserve a top notch umpire. Please umpire next year!!!! It's for the kids.

You couldn't be more right. The biggest problem other than the fact the ump threw him out of the game but it was instant. No hesitation as if he had predetermined if there was a collision he was tossing the player. It was horrible and the umps this year in NKY should be embarrassed with how they did this year.

I heard all the good umpires in NKY go across the river to work good baseball.

Looks like we have an umpire join the board.

Incorrect, they are awful over here too. Money too good, and no accountabilty. Blue boys are stealing money, should be ashamed and give it back. Coaches should have a vote after every game to see if umps should be paid full share, half share, or no share. That would certainly weed out those that have no conscious and keep getting paid for incompetence.

Wow.......how about every school pay for TV/ Camera systems so we can implement replay.......OR, maybe for each close call we can just have the men in blue take a survey of the stands to see which way to call it.....my guess.....the team with the most fans, win the calls......

My ONLY issue (as most calls are truly subjective), is a man in blue that is perhaps not in the right shape or age to make it to the correct position to make the call.........If you can't make it around the field, then perhaps you shouldn't be out there......

In soccer there are specific fitness tests......are there the same in tests/requirements in baseball?

Well, I have to say having attended a huge amount of high school games this year in Northern Ky. I have seen some bad calls but of course most calls are gotten correct and nobody mentions those.

One thing that has bothered me all year with the umpiring is the ejection of players for contact. I have witnessed two players ejected wayyyy too quickly for contact during a run down or a play at a base. I think it would be beneficial to really get some clarification on this for the umpires as well as coaches.

The other thing I have witnessed and this happened on three seperate occasions. Twice in Northern Ky. and once with a Lexington umpire. Coach instructs his pitcher to take a walk off the mound and compose himself and base umpire yells at the pitcher loud enough for everyone to hear to "get back on the mound." I thought these were very inappropriate and almost bullying tactics by the umpire.

The other issue I have deals with HBP. Now that players do not have to get out of the way I have stood behind home plate and seen players really lean into pitches that honestly are crossing the plate as a strike, to only get rewarded with a base. That needs to be cleaned up!

Looks like you had a few already ;)

I was, of course, somewhat tongue in cheek, but it really is an issue. I do like your fitness idea, that alone would trim the herd.

No there is not and you are right there should be. There isn't even a PT for most college umpires. The D1 conferences in the south have a PT but it is very very easy... Some of the people on this site could even pass it (maybe).

The heard is already trim as can be. The cupboard is bare. That's why you see old fat guys working the games. If they had a PT for HS umpires there would not be enough umpires to cover all the games. Unless of coarse some of the fellas on this site want to give it a try and see if they can help improve the game for the kids in the community that they claim to love. Oh wait, that takes time and true dedication, it's a lot easier to just complain.

They have no focus or understanding of the game. Just seems like (as mentioned previously) they are there to collect a check and have no integrity or respect for the game, players or coaches. In other regions of the country there just seems to be a better understanding of the overall game and how to umpire/manage the game compared to NKY. Calls will missed that's human nature, but the overall lack of understanding of the game itself and how to manage a game is just crazy.

I may agree with you at the freshmen and JV levels to an extent but not at the varsity level. Those type of people get weeded out before they ever make varsity.

Blah blah. Love the martyr approach. Would they care so much about the kids if there wasnt a pay check at the end? How about they learn the rules and try to get better, wouldnt that improve the game?
