Colleges can't initiate convo this year against ncaa regs.

But he can ring their phone off the hook. If they are interested, they will answer. Trust me. Get their number/s, shoot them a text telling them who you are (coaches like to see a name pop up when you call) so they can add your name to their phone. That way, when you call, the coach will see a name on their screen. If they answer, that's a good sign.

While that resume has some very nice recognition and accomplishments, I feel it's much more important to develop as a player for the future. At the end of the day, who really cares what was accomplished against kids his own age or younger and FBU games as a 7th grader. Also, 8th grade All-State?? Really? What is that? As an 8th grader, he should of been playing on the frosh team at his high school, then as a frosh on the JV HS team. Like I said, those recognitions are fun to get, but development is so much more important even if it means not dominating so a kid and his parents can bang on their hollow drum. My advice, play up whenever possible if the kid can handle it. The payoff will be much greater when things start to really count. Just my two cents..........

Yeah, he played frosh some his 8th grade year scored something like 10-12 td's. I'm told he wanted to play with his friends in his age 8th grade year group because he knew they had a good team and he wanted to be part of it. Played some jv last year also had good success last year. He'll be fine. I just hate to see people dumping on him who really don't know him. Lives in my neighborhood and I know his parents. Really good kid and family. They have other athletic kids too! His little brother is about 5ft 6 165 just 11 I think. Will play for Union Raiders. Pretty fast too.

Good Advice, I will pass that on to his parents.

Look I hope this kid plays well and has lots of D1 offers. But I have seen kids that grow quicker than the rest of their age. I know A kid now that was a super start 7th 8th grade basketball player. 6'2 in the 7th grade around 210 taller stronger than everone else. Guess what as a 10th grader hes still 6'2 210 and evertone else caught up. Still a nice player but not near the player everyone was saying. I don't know if thats the case with this kid. Only varsity time will tell.

Let's take this kid out of the equation. You can't say that because a kid is great as 15, he won't be at 18. Were is the logic in that? Iv'e seen peewee phenoms not even play in HS.

I've also seen good athletes just keep getting better. You don't have to suck as a freshman to be good later. You can always suck, you can always be good. Peoples argument has no logic. Everyone who has seen this kid is impressed with his speed, power, hip motion, footwork, hands, the things you want to see in a ball player. I heard he goes to all the off season stuff, plays other sports. He works hard, so I'm sure he'll get better. From what I seen in spring ball he is as good or better than your average back. To be great and keep his production up to the level he has achieved, He'll have to work like everyone else..So far he's still ahead of the curve. And he doesn't have to keep growing he's already varsity size. By lifting he'll add 15-20 more pounds. I'm done defending him but all the coaches know about him. Who's a better judge, opposing coaches or us?

I am a fan. Will be rooting for this kid to succeed. Nothing but the best!

Camp means more than freshman/jv film see Zeke Pike.

Camps are a good indicator, but I doubt there as good as a full season's performance in game time.

I will give my own perspective on this. Several years ago college coaches wanted two or three full game films to evaluate a player. Now, they want a 5 minute highlight video and to see the player in person. Game film is not used as much as it was a few years ago primarily because with the media available now coaches are able to see a great deal more players. A player will get more scholarship offers by attending summer camps, combines and visiting colleges. I even know of several players that have not produced that much in the high school season, but by going to camps and combines have received scholarships. A few years ago Trinity's backup QB got a D1 scholarship. He could not start on his own high school team, but got a D1 scholarship. That was not by his season performance, it was by him going to camps and combines.

Good example, can't argue with that. IMO I would want to see a player in game situations. I know camps let them get a good close up of the kid. I would aslo wants to see him play. I would say that some of both would not be bad.

I agree, and what you have said would have been 100% correct a few years ago, but with the internet and recruiting agencies it has changed. Coaches just don't have time or a travel budget to travel to every high school and watch players. They have to have a small piece of information to decide if the trip is worth it - the highlight video. They want to see if a player is worth looking at, and they have 500 highlight videos to look at, so they sort the players by the video. Also, they can go to a camp or combine and see 100 kids at one time. So, that is much more cost effective then traveling to one high school to see one player.

And, you have to understand, they are not that concerned about football talent, they are concerned about 1. size, 2. speed, and 3. athleticism. If you have those three things, they can make you a football player. An awesome 6'2" lineman equals no scholarship, an average 6'5" lineman equals scholarship.

Camps are a good indicator, but I doubt there as good as a full season's performance in game time.

Wanna bet? lol

Ram has said what many on here have said for quite sometime.

Sure a gamefilm is good but to tell you the truth what coaches are looking at on game film more than actual runs or receptions or passes etc. the player has during the game is more of what the player does when he isn't getting the ball per say. They want to see if he still gives 100% when the play is away from him, they want to see if he runs his routes half speed if he knows the ball isn't going to him, they want to see if he will do the little things such as blocking etc. They don't need to see 3, 4 or 5 game films to see what kind of attitude and athleticism a kid has. The highlight video is simply that, a highlight video to show how the player does when his number is called etc. the game film is what shows the entagibles.

So as Ram has said, coaches and recruiters don't go around watching games on Friday nights until they have targeted a player, and they target a plyer first by highlight videos and camps.

I just came back from another recruiting visit for my son last week and only after the coaches saw what the recruits could do in the 3 hours they were with them did they tell certain players that they would try and get to a game this season, and that is if it was in the 45 min drive area of the college. So in other words, it isn't like you see in the movies where there are 15 different college coaches in the stands watching practice and watching games etc. They recruit through highlight video's and camps. They don't travel the country on friday nights watching high school games hoping to spot a player they can recruit.

From what I'm hearing Get your kid's to camps. That's not possible for all parents. Some of those camps come at a hefty price tag. Two or three camps could add up to $1,000 with travel.

That's true, fortunately most senior camps are $30-$50. Now, you have to add travel on that, but almost all of them are one day camps so you can save on hotels many times. And, I understand the expense, I have done it, but I looked at it as an investment. If I spend a few thousand dollars and my son gets a $100,000 education for free I came out far ahead.

That is very true. My boy also plays baseball and one of the unfortunate things with that is baseball goes on (including summer ball) the same time most camps take place.

I will give you our story and what has worked that has already produced some offers for my boy. He didn't attend a single camp through his junior year. We knew he had to get to at least a combine/camp to get his official times because they don't do times at school etc. so we got his game films, joined NCSA who put together a highlight video. Then this past May we got him to a NUC camp-combine to get his times etc. that was the only one he attended. From that camp he was (and still is) getting invites to the NUC 100 camps. He also was selected for the Elite 5 Star which there are only a few nationwide each year, espn is one of the sponsors etc. he couldn't attend due to baseball but it got his name our there and along with NCSA he has already been contacted by at least a dozen schools, already been on several recruiting trips and has already had an offer that he will decide on by Jan at the latest.

So it doesn't cost an arm and a leg, only 1 camp he's attended bit NCSA was as big of a help if not bigger. That investment isn't cheap, ballpark of $900 but will be worth the investment in the end.

I got a lot of advice and can't thank them enough from Mr Sixer and RomanEmpire.

So if you are in a similar position, every little bit helps.
