Maybe, Of the 8 spots, I consider half of them to have been key. Jackson on offense and defense, Jordan Brown at WR and Deondre Jackson at LB.

 

We already know what to expect from Guhy, he will pick you apart.

The offensive line will be better next year and has more depth and as you said after last years game "the Mayfield offensive line was definitely better than expected. But Mayfield is always better than expected" in reference to the Cards O line.

 

Mills and Tyler at RB will be a fall off but Mills is a very stout runner and was so last year when he was given the chance, he is well above average for a HS back and Tyler is the first speed merchant we have had in a few years and has that knack for getting into the open. We have been watching him for several years thinking he was going to be a dandy and he now gets his chance. But no doubt Jackson was special and no one can realisticly expect these 2 to replace Jackson but we should be very potent.

 

I expect our offense to be extremely good

 

To me, if there is an area of concern it is on defense at LB and how they develop but I really like what we return. This will be a vet. team

I agree on all points, it is far from a given but that is the case every year. This teams goal is the the same as every year and I hope we can deliver but both of those teams pose a huge challenge

I could not disagree more. I think you described Beechwoods situation but not ours with 14 of 22 starters returning and a star player at qb I feel pretty darn good about my chances

Seems as though BW and Mayfield are more alike than you might think, BW has 11 of 22 returning with the new starters the equal or better than who they replaced...oops forgot about Nussbaum, ok with one exception. You may be very surprised how good BW is this year.

Why would I be suprised t all? Beechwood is always good and usually the best 1A team we face. As I said in my last post, Beechwood poses a huge challenge. I fully expect them to be very good but I also think, atleast as of right now before the season starts, that we have more upside with what we return. Having the qb back and line back, a line that really sominated Beechwood and will be better gives me reason to be optimistic. The young Beechwood qb will be better and so may the Tiger line but they were not when they lst left the field. Like us Beechwood is going to see a fall off where Max played just as we will with Jackson. Neither of us have replacement that will step in to their shoes yet. Beechwood will no doubt be very good I am not blind to that. We both better keep a close eye on this Russellville team. They scare me to death.

Speaking purely from a talent point of view, IMO Beechwood will have more talent this coming season than they had last season. The issue is that a big chunk of that talent is in the sophomores and you just never know how much they can contribute right away.

I have never understood the way Beechwood uses or maybe I should say, chooses not to use their frosh talent. From what I understand, until this past season when they were forced too, they had never really given any freshmen players a chance to play varsity. We typically have a few that will start most years simply becasue they are the better than the upper classmen we have available

I think Beechwood loosing Nausbam is a bigger blow to them than Mayfield loosing Jackson because Mayfield will beat you with the pass, Beechwood can't , or won't attempt to.

From what I have read on here, they may open it up a little more this year but from my own experience, it takes a couple years before you get to where it is the weapon it is at Mayfield. Learning to be efficient at it like we are requires a learning curve for the entire offense as well as the coaches

It was a big loss for sure but I think we will have some kids step up and share that load from what I am hearing from the players. Like others have said, our defense will be a bit of a question mark but we have some kids that have played some quality time in games that will fill it nicely like Pedro Gonzalez and Davis Mills. There has been some shifting around of players and positions as the coaches get a feel for who is best at what positions but I am keenly interested in our running game. This year it will be more of a mix with speed and power from Mills and Tyler, if Tyler can learn to hit the holes this offseason, watch out, his speed is killer, and it should be a significant threat with a very seasoned line we have coming back.

 

From what I am hearing, we have moved Lane Kennemore into the backup QB position as well as receiver, the kid has great hands along with the others we have in that receiver corps. I look for Jake to not have a lack of receivers this year.

 

Its gonna be a great season, I look for our toughest opponent of the regular season to be Paducah Tilghman, with the merger of the Paducah schools I think Tilghman is gonna be the biggest benefactor as the quality Lone Oak kids seem to be heading that way.
