What does Mayfield need to do to improve in 2013? What do they need to keep doing to be successful? Remember, please be constructive.

The Jackson era has ended but I dont think Mayfield's run is over. They will have to find a runner and I think Mill's and Tyler will fill that roll. Mayfield has many returning starters back from last season and I looks for Mayfield to be one of the teams , if not the team to beat beat in 1A. Mayfield has a very tough schedule with FT Campbell, Paducah Tilghman, Mccracken Co., Graves Co. ,Murray and Russleville, Caldwell Co. to name a few on its schedule and I would say it's the toughest in class 1A. If this bunch can jell as a team , I look for them to repeat as State Champs.

We return 7 starters on offense and 7 on defense and will be pretty good football team that should be the favorite to win the state title.

 

 

OFFENSE

The MayfieldCardinals retun a Guy at Qb who is poised to have a huge year much like he had last year where he only had 1 int.

 

The entire interior line returns.

 

Key losses are Jonathan Jackson at RB. We have very capable, experienced replacements in Stew Mills and Jordie Tyler but this is the biggest spot where we will see a drop off from last year as Jackson was just that good.

 

Key loss #2 is Jordan Brown ar WR. Another huge loss but I do not expect to miss a beat here with the guys comming in like Reed, Bacon, Jackson. Our qb Guy (H) likes to spread the wealth. We will be in great shape at reciever.

 

The other 2 starters that graduated are Mikie Mix at end and Te Sherill, both were very good but their replacements should be their equal. Rickeem Burton also started much of the year at guard but was lost to injury

 

 

DEFENSE

The interior line returns and will be better this year.

The secondary lost Jordan Brown and Te Sherill at corners but we should be fine with here with the guys we have back that got alot of time like Reed

The biggest void will be at linebacker where we lost 2 of the 3 starters and one was Jackson who will be sorely missed. The loss of Dondre Jackson at backer is also a big loss. Mills returns and will be solid. In spring ball we were looking at a couple of guys to feel the void and should be fine but we certainly do not have anyone who will be the caliber that Jackson and Jackson were

Mayfield was impressive in Bowling Green this past season. Jackson was a stud, but a program like that will find a way to have a chance just about any year.

Some of the other teams in 1A have done nicely so far and there are several Cards fans here so I was wanting to hear what they and others thought. You are right though in that I am being impatient.

I think it actually starts with the 2015 season. The current alignment was four years, 2011-12-13-14. The enrollment size information likely will be based on next year's enrollment, however.

One thing you will find out here is for a Mayfield thread to have lots of posts it doesnt hurt to have Beechwood mentioned. Of course this is May and things aren't fired up yet and I'm not sure their faithful believe at this point, that their team can beat Mayfield this year.

What you really need snake is toothpick jumping in and making some comments. He seems to know how to light a fire in the Beechwood posters.

 

I think it is going to be an interesting year for both Mayfield and Beechwood. Different than the past few years. Both teams have good young talent but are less certain about what they can expect for this coming season. You just never know when you are counting on young, unproven players to carry a lot of the load.

I could not disagree more. I think you described Beechwoods situation but not ours with 14 of 22 starters returning and a star player at qb I feel pretty darn good about my chances

But those 8 missing starters are the key players on last year's team except for Guhy. There are certainly question marks about how good this team will be. Obviously, they will be good. But how good?
