Giancarlo Stanton to the Reds?

All just speculation on the writers part. However, when I first saw it implied I thought no way would the Marlins part with him and nor could the Reds make a package for him.

But after reading it it makes some sense... Apparently the Marlins have a recently promoted 22 year old OF that is setting the world on fire. And Stanton is going to arbitration the next three years. You know Loria doesn't want to pay him.

They say the Marlins would likely ask for a package that would include

1) Donald Lutz

2) Henry Rodriquez

3) One of our top LH SP prospects: Ishmael Guillon or Amir Garrett

4) One of our top RH SP prospects: Daniel Corcino, Robert Stephenson, or Nick Travieso

5) One of our "close to major league ready closer types" : Justin Freeman, Carlos Contreras, Kyle Lotzkar

It's also pointed out they would have control over him for at least three years, and that he's looking at probably around $8M in arbitration.

Could be far fetched, but I'm not sure...

If you're Walt, would you give the Marlins a call?

I'd love for the Reds to get Stanton, but I don't see it as realistic. I also don't think they should deplete the farm system for him either.

If your getting this guy, why not trade Bruce in the deal?

That was my first thought too... But then again, in the three years, they could build it back up again. And Stanton might be the kind of player you would consider trading the farm for...

Move Stanton to LF... BP, Votto, Stanton, Bruce 2 to 5...

Because in no world, would that make even a little sense....

No way I give that many prospects for Stanton. Plus I make the deal only if they take Ludwick too, which pretty much kills it. But you can't have Ludwick and Stanton on the same roster in Cincinnati. It doesn't work.

This^

In a perfect world where the Reds could afford him this would be great but it's not. Our farm system is already pretty thin. This would completely deplete it. They are building this team the right way and need to continue that blue print.

If the Reds could get Stanton for what this writer mentions ( and I don't think they could) I make the trade in a heart beat.

And next year you'd have Walt in your avatar with a line thru him.

Not a chance. What are you giving up? Lutz is already 24 years old, and yes I know he started baseball late, but the fact remains he's already 24, and still hitting .213 at AA. Where is Henry Rodriguez going to play the next 3 years? So you give up a couple pitching "prospects". Stanton is well worth that. Half of you hated the Latos deal when it was made. (Yes I know you didn't spindoc) The Reds have to make this deal if that's all the Marlins would want.

It's the pitching prospects I would rather not part with. What this team needs is Bruce not to suck. Problems solved.

The only prospect mentioned that I would really fight to not give up out of the ones mentioned would be Stephenson... For someone like Stanton anyways...

And while those pitching prospects are good prospect there are none of that are above A ball... it would be a surprise if and of the 4 Guillon, Garrett, Stephenson, or Travieso had more than a year in the bigs in the three years Stanton is here...

Would you really do this deal if you were the Marlins?
