Foot Injury

Featured Replies

A couple weeks ago, I got finished playing basketball. After I cooled down and took my shoes off, I had a terrible pain in my right foot. Made it really tough to walk. Didn't really think anything of it, and went to bed. The next morning the pain was still pretty bad, and didn't completely subside all day...

The last few times I've played, the same thing has happened. Even when it hasn't been basketball, just being on my feet for long periods of time, I get the same pain. It runs on the inner half of my foot, from about the middle of my heel, to a little past halfway down my arch... Sometimes it feels like a muscle type pain, sometimes it doesn't. Excruciating pain sometimes.

A couple different friends have said they think it sounds like plantar faciitis (sp?). They told me to freeze a bottle of water and roll my foot over that. It's supposed to loosen the tendon and provide pain relief. Well, while waiting for the bottle to freeze, I used a small baseball bat. That pain was the worst I have felt throughout the ordeal by far. So bad I could barely stand it.

So what do you guys/girls think it is? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds exactly like plantars faciitis to me. There are stretching exercises you can do as well as rolling the frozen water bottle under your foot. If those help, then it is probably plantars faciitis, but if you aren't sure, there is no substitute to getting your doctor's opinion. They can't really say for sure it is plantars faciitis but they can rule out anything more serious.

There is lots of information available on the internet that will help you.

I haven't used the frozen bottle yet, as it is still freezing. But I have been rolling my foot on a rolling pin, and it actually is less painful than when I first started...

Weil I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express, but I do have a DEA #. My advice....assuming you don't have any reason not to be able to take NSAIDs, I'd take 800mg of Ibuprofen every 6 hours around the clock for 3 days. Gotta eat, or the Ib will tear your gut up. 800 is the max dose of Ib, so don't double up. While you may not have a discernible amount of relief, continue the regimen so that the inflammation will be under control for that long. If you have a fracture, which I doubt, the Ib won't have nearly as solid an effect. The ice thing can't hurt, and I'd refrain from playing ball for a while. PF is a nightmare to get rid of without rest.

I had it several years ago and it was no fun. I tried all the conventional painkillers, stretching exercises, etc. Nothing seemed to work.

I'm not one to subscribe to snake oil remedies; but I bought a pair of those shoe inserts with the little studs/magnets in them. Pain was gone within a week and never came back.

I'll stop playing ball, but the pain happens even when I'm just on my feet for a long period of time.

I've thought about getting inserts, but didn't know if they would affect it negatively or positively. Did you put them in all your shoes?

It was at its worst for me when I first got up in the morning; I dreaded putting my foot on the ground getting out of bed.

Same here... It usually lessens a little throughout the day, until I sit down for a period of time.

Hope it gets better Deuce. I've never had PF, but everyone who has tells the same painful story.

Yep.

I was walking a couple of blocks each day to and from work at the time. One of the things the family doc told me at the time (besides as much ibuprofen as I could stand, ice, stretching, etc.) was to stop walking in cheap shoes. I bought a couple of pairs of Rockports; but I still think it was those funky inserts I bought at Dillard's that did the trick.

Got news, Deuce, Randy, and whoever else is tuning in.

The feet are only one (well, two I guess) of many things that start deteriorating.:irked:

I've had the same issue for about a year. It's not a terrible pain but almost every pair of shoes I've purchased hurt my feet. I have flat feet but never had any issues prior to last summer. I have had some success with the frozen water bottle but while playing ball tonight I can tell I don't have much strength in my arch. I'll likely go to the doctor once my insurance plan starts over on 7/1, I'll have an extra $1000 on my PCA account to spend.

Thanks, I appreciate it. It's pretty annoying. I like getting out and playing ball as much as I can, but this puts a damper on things.

I'm going to look into getting some inserts.
