April 22, 201313 yr Author Questions remain unanswered for 8th grade student arrested over shirt So... Is there something more to this that I'm missing?
April 22, 201313 yr I would think this would have been covered in the school rules for attire which are usually distributed at the beginning of each school year. But to be arrested seems over the top. In my day, we couldn't wear anything with cut-off sleeves. Edited April 22, 201313 yr by OlDog75
April 22, 201313 yr How old is this kid? Seems old for 8th grade. Ahhh, maybe he's a football player and was held back. Edited April 22, 201313 yr by OlDog75
April 22, 201313 yr What was he arrested for? That is crazy that teacher even made an issue out of that shirt. Is there anyone out there in BGP land that agrees with the schools actions on this?

The school district's dress code policy prohibits clothing that displays profanity, violence, discriminatory messages and more but nowhere in the document does it say anything about gun images according to the video. I've not seen or heard anything about cutoff sleeves.

He was charged with obstruction and disturbing the education process, an attorney is working to get the charges dropped. The father says "He did not violate any school policy, he did not become aggressive."

April 22, 201313 yr Author Here's an article from Fox. LOGAN COUNTY SCHOOLS' STUDENT DRESS CODE I am assuming this is covers K - 12.

I'm willing to bet that a parent who does not share the viewpoint, would have had a problem with it and may have taken it to the school or media anyway. So the teacher is caught between a rock and hard place I would imagine.
April 22, 201313 yr What viewpoint, it is a shirt with a picture of a gun and a NRA logo. Seriously what is there to be upset about.

So the teacher is caught between a rock and hard place I would imagine. So if my kid wears a crucifix and another parent doesn't share that view it's a problem? Or just a t-shirt with a cross, is a non-Christian parent going to be able to have them remove it if they are not Christian? This is just another example of schools going WAY overboard and becoming ridiculous.
April 22, 201313 yr What viewpoint, it is a shirt with a picture of a gun and a NRA logo. Seriously what is there to be upset about. West Paducah, Columbine, the Amish schoolhouse in Pennsylvania ... to name just a few reasons why some people might be upset by the message this shirt sends. Often standard procedure when this happens is to have the kid turn the shirt inside-out for the rest of the day. I suspect the kid's father may have been trying to make a point at the kid's expense. I also suspect this isn't the first time the school district has had a run-in with the kid and/or his father. Bottom line is some 1st/2nd Amendment rights don't get to enter the schoolhouse with the student.
