Are you allowed to slide head first into first base?

 

Randy Parker's niece was called out for doing so today.

 

Never heard of that rule.

I just looked through an online NFHS rulebook and there was no mention of now sliding headfirst into 1st base.

What the hell is that all about, I have never heard of such a rule. 10th Region must go by a different book. :idunno:

Was this a key moment in the game, did it stop a rally or kill an inning? Did Coach Cummins try and go to the rule book before play could continue? I have noticed that a quite a few umpires this season are NOT in tune with the rules, botching some really easy calls.........especially the infield fly.

Bottom of the 7th & Bracken is down 4-2. Top of the order is up. Emma leads off & she either bunts or slaps it somewhere & slides headfirst into first. She's called safe. Coach Bretz of Nicholas County comes running out of the dugout saying she's out because she slid headfirst. Umpires confer & call her out.

 

Would have put the tying run at the plate with nobody down. Jordan Wills is the next batter & she doubles, but does get thrown out trying to stretch it into a triple (not a good play at the time b/c her run didn't mean anything). But I think Emma is probably at 3rd on that play if she's still on base, meaning runners at 2nd & 3rd with nobody out.

It was the second time the umpires had to get together. The first time ended up benefiting Bracken, but I wondered about it too. Bracken girl steals second & base umpire calls her out. Everybody else & their grandmothers knew she was safe. Umps get together after Coaches Cummins & Conley challenge the home plate umpire. Coach Bretz of Nicholas County says to the home plate ump, "You have home & third. He has first & second. You can't overrule that." (Or something like that) The call was the right call, so again, that is most important. I just wonder if the home plate ump can do that in that particular situation.

Your not the only one. I just don't even know what to say! I've never heard such of a rule in my life! I think theirs a rule for baseball about this but not softball
