April 12, 201313 yr Anyone know if this is an outcome or related to the task force commissioned last year to look into MS sports in bill sponsored by Damron?
April 12, 201313 yr Will the KHSAA hold statewide tournaments for middle school athletics like they do for high school athletics? You wonder if the current "conference" setup that most middle schools participate in will continue, or will they move to districts/regions like the high schools?
April 12, 201313 yr Author Anyone know if this is an outcome or related to the task force commissioned last year to look into MS sports in bill sponsored by Damron? Outcome because of it no, in response to it yes, if that makes sense to you.
April 12, 201313 yr Not to sidetrack the thread, but has there ever been one post take up an entire thread page? Yep, futurecoach.
April 12, 201313 yr Author This email came out this morning to the High School and Middle School Football list servers. I am writing on behalf of the Board of the Kentucky Middle School Football Association to advise that we were advised late yesterday that the Kentucky Department of Education approved an amendment to 702 KAR 7:065 to designate the KHSAA as the agent to manage interscholastic athletics at the middle school level. The Association was not advised nor provided notice of the proposed promulgation of the regulation prior to the adoption; nor was Representative Robert Damron the sponsor of HCR 155. The Board is reviewing the impact of the regulation and will be gathering information, including feedback from its members, as to any proposed response or course of action regarding the affect on middle school football and the activities of the Association. The Association was instrumental in the passage of HCR 155 to form the Legislative Committee to review middle school athletics of which three of its Board members actively participated. The Board stands committed to the recommendations that it submitted to the Committee for improvement to middle school athletics and greater opportunities for students to participate in middle school sports. Should any of our members wish to submit comments or feedback for consideration by the Board, please send to the following e-mail address: [email protected] Sincerely, Kentucky Middle School Football Association
April 12, 201313 yr Outcome because of it no, in response to it yes, if that makes sense to you. Preemptive strike?
April 12, 201313 yr Author Preemptive strike? Not sure honestly. I will say that im not sure who was hotter yesterday, Rep. Damron or our Mutual friend!
April 12, 201313 yr "The Board stands committed to the recommendations that it submitted to the Committee for improvement to middle school athletics and greater opportunities for students to participate in middle school sports." And how, praytell, does middle schools being governed by KHSAA offer greater opportunites for participation? Or, as I tend to believe, is this just blow hard sound good political speak to make this decision "seem" to be the greatest thing since sliced bread or Tang.

Potentially more sport offerings in middle schools? I personally think it's a crime that JCPS waited till only recently to begin Middle School football.
April 12, 201313 yr Author Potentially more sport offerings in middle schools? I personally think it's a crime that JCPS waited till only recently to begin Middle School football. According to what I am hearing there is so many issues in JCPS with middle school sports that many teams are breaking out of the JCPS sponsorship and doing their own thing.
April 12, 201313 yr Potentially more sport offerings in middle schools? I personally think it's a crime that JCPS waited till only recently to begin Middle School football. I don't see how that would affect anything. I mean, if a school didn't want to have middle school football, it's not like the KHSAA would or even could force them to do it. Or that any school would suddenly put together a program just because they are now governed by the KHSAA. And remember, football is a huge up front cost sport to start, and in this age of budget shortfalls I doubt many are looking to start a footbal program if they don't have one established already.

It was just an example...what about girls sports?

Why have a middle school basketball Sweet 16? Save it for when they are in high school. The current conference system works well imo.
April 13, 201313 yr This is a result of a few things. the the middle school football championships are one of the biggest. Playing 3 football games a week or weekend and no heat rules for practice with some very stupid coaches actions was the last straw. Play 5 basketball games a week didn't help either. This will end badly.
