37% of Americans believe that Global Warming is a hoax

Al Roker Appalled By Poll Showing 37 Percent Believe Global Warming Is A Hoax - YouTube

As I sit here wiping moisture from my brow on an April spring day that is probably 20-25 degrees warmer than what is normal for this time of year, I ponder about the validity of the claim of Global Warming. I'm not a scientist by a long shot and have done no personal extensive research on the matter, so I personally cannot say with any certainty one way or another, however I tend to lean towards thinking that the claim is something worth paying attention to rather than discounting it.

Recent poll results show that 37% of Americans feel that claims of Global Warming are a hoax.

Personally, I am neither Democrat or Republican, as I've never found myself able to sell my soul completely to either party, and simply just settle for a non-specific title, and judge each issue in itself without any party's prompting when coming to my conclusions on various topics.

As we all know, the vast majority of the United States is however divided into two very large groups of either Democrats or Republicans, with various, mostly insignificant 3rd parties.

With that said, I pose two questions (and you are also more than welcome to add more questions, answers, and points to ponder as you like).

1. Specifically, of the 37 percent of Americans that believe that Global Warming is a hoax, what percent of these doubters do you think are either Democrats or Republicans? I personally do not know, but was wondering what others might guess.

2. Where do you stand on Global Warming? (and for the sake of an unofficial sort of microcosmic poll of BG Prepsters, if you feel comfortable, perhaps also state your party affiliation).

My off the cuff assumption would be that the majority of the 37 percent are GOP, no stats to back that up.

My stand on Global Warming is that it possibly could be man made, I think there is too much research which suggests global warming is man made and too much research which suggests it is not to be able to make a solid assertion either direction. I generally assume most who pound their fist arguing for one view or the other have an agenda. That agenda could be loyaly to their poliltical party's view, or how it affects them and those around them economically.

I am a registered independent who probably votes Republican 70% of the time however on the last state election, I voted Independent for Gov/Lt. Gov, GOP for Sec of State, Sec of Ag and Attorney General and Democrat for Treasurer and State Auditor. So in that case I voted 50% GOP, 33% Dem and 17% Independent. I only provide that to give an idea of my typical voting loyalty to parties, or lack of loyalty.

I am an independent. I can think for myself. I am not saying there is or isn't Global Warming, I just do not believe that man has a whole lot to do with it one way or another. I think it is interesting that you choose the temperature on one day this year to 'prove' Global Warming exists, yet totally ignore the temperatures from the beginning of March through the first week of April. Global Warming is the only movement I have seen that, no matter what happens, it proves that Global Warming exists. If it is too cold or too warm, it's Global Warming. There is no such thing as 'normal' temperatures. What you are referring to is the average temperature. You add all temperatures together, both cold and warm, to get the average temperature for this date. I have not done any in depth research, but I have noticed that most of the record high and low temperatures seem to be in the 1930's. The global temperatures do go through cycles of warming and cooling, so I cannot get too upset one way or the other.

Perhaps I could or would believe in global warming if on a day to day basis the national media didn't have an agenda that they push so much. I no longer can watch it. Heard of the gas prices lately? Heard how many soldiers are dying overseas or seen a running count of how many days we've been fighting an illegal war? Of course you haven't because they have their man in office and cant or won't make him look bad.

If I could take what they call facts as actual facts on global warming and believe those to be true, I would wonder if there really is something to what they say. No doubt the weather is different than it was 20 years ago but I don't know if that is man made or just cyclical. I sure as hell can't believe our great national media. Right Dan Rather?!!

For those who doubt global warming, what is causing polar ice caps to melt? Why is the ice melting in Greenland? There is clear scientific fact on these items. Global warming is a fact.

I think it's these guys fault. They aren't melting, they are being hunted to the point of extinction!

Thank you for weighing in. Aside from saying that I think that Global Warming is worth paying attention to, I don't believe that I was trying to adamantly prove or disprove anything one way or another. With bringing up this topic here, I was more interested in pretty much discussing which political party most of the doubters were more inclined to be affiliated with.

Personally whether or not the weather has anything to do with actions of the human race, logic would tell me that this planet only has so many resources and a growing population, and that it would be responsible for us to do our best at recycling since we've proved that we certainly can make resources go further in doing so, and that we should also be super careful about making sure we don't cut down too many trees, which it appears we seem to be doing.

Since today is an unusually warm day I couldn't help but think about Global Warming, and just thought that since it was on my mind that it was an apropo time to bring it up.

Didn't roughly 63% believe in Man-Bear-Pig...because Al Gore said so?

The point is not whether there is some warming. It goes in cycles. The question is whether it is man made. I am not convince of that. And if it is not man made, we just have to live with it. Maybe I should know this, but what does SMH mean.

I just found out on here about a month or two back thanks to my man PP92.

I haven't done much research on the subject -- especially regarding Greenland.

Can you fill me in?

There is such a thing.
