Hoffman, a pediatric brain cancer patient, gained national attention recently when he scored a touchdown during the Huskers spring red and white game. The video of the event has generated more than 6.3 million views on YouTube. The grandson of Don and Carlene Burkhead and Charles and Aleene Eury of Winchester, Rex Burkhead was contacted by Andy Hoffman in 2011 concerning his then-5-year-old son, Jack who was nearing the date for his second surgery to treat a rare form of cancer called pediatric low-grade glioma. Andy had asked if Jack could meet Burkhead, his favorite football player, before undergoing the risky treatment.
