His teams have won 7 regular season and 11 conference tournament championships. C-USA Coach of the Year in 2005. Three-time SEC Coach of the Year and was National Coach of the Year in 1987.

April 2, 201313 yr Seriously who does the voting? Writers but it is a very odd process with various committees, anonymity, and criteria. I am not sure anyone really knows who the voters are.

April 2, 201313 yr How long into/after their careers did coaches with similar or even lesser resumes that Pitino get voted in? Of course guys like Coach K and Calhoun are in... multiple national championships help. But what about Boeheim? Or John Thompson? Or Lou Carnesecca? Or John Chaney?
