I really wouldn't make a big deal about these lavish vacations. I would want my children, who are under the microscope NONSTOP, to have as much of a normalized life as possible.

 

However, I recently received a heartfelt email from Organizing for Action, formerly known as Obama for America.

 

The email talked about a certain teacher in a poverty stricken school district.

 

One thing the children can always depend on when they go to school is two hot meals a day -- something they probably don't get at home too often.

 

But due to the sequester cuts, the funding won't be there to keep feeding these kids three hot meals a day.

 

Considering Obama and congress are the ones responsible for putting this kind of funding as bargaining chips for political gain/tactics, you can expect nothing less for Obama and his family to get a little bit of flack when they are flying around on the taxpayers tab.

 

Would one vacation that the Obama's do pay for a schools "hot meals" it provides for children Obama's Organizing for Action was talking about?

The total amount spent just for Michelle and the kids is approx 16 million from 2009-current. This is the third straight month they have taken a vacation . 3 for 3 in 2013 . I wonder did they ever unpack from the last one ? Heck Biden dropped a cool million for one night in France . 321 K for limos and over 600K on the hotel . That is how govt's end up 17 trillion dollars in debt. a million here , a million there . it adds up to real money.

Btw, most presidential families didn't take multiple vacations a year, and I know of zero Presidents that took the time to spend days with a golf pro. Most were too busy.

The POTUS should most certainly get vacations. They should get 1 per year on the public dime and there should be a limit on what it costs. Any other vacation should be 100% paid for with their own money. Any vacations the family goes on without the POTUS should be 100% paid for with their own money.

I believe they are now, unless you're including security.

There are two costs associated with these vacations. The first is the actual cost of the vacation. Those costs are paid by the First Family, regardless of who is in the White House. The second is for security. We pay the costs for security, regardless of where they go. I feel the same way about travel by this First Family that I did about travel by all of the previous First Families. Did anyone object when we paid for a secret service deatail that spent four years off at two colleges under President Bush? I didn't. After all, if both girls had gone to the same college and taken the same classes, we could have saved on the size of the detail. Did these same people complain when secret service deatails spent vast amounts of time in Texas or California under Presidents Bush and Reagan? What about those trips to Maine. Soory, but I think this is part of the latest narrative which is to paint the President as somehow acting above his station.

Actually I could, but the point I was trying make is that if my technology is good enough for little old me to be able function all over the world then I would imagine that the POTUS' technology might be just a hair better than mine to take care of business.

Absolutely. I even keep a charger close by at all times in case my battery gets weak.

I do think they could go a little less exreme on expense.

No one vacations 3 times in 3 months . quit taking up for and call it what it is ... excess luxory when our roads are crumbling , our vets are treated like crap , and we have 17 trillion in in debt
