Baylor Recruit Squats 805

By the title I thought this was a rehashed Brittney Griner thread.

Where's a rim shot when it's needed. :D

Not good for this young man to do that much weight....less weight with more reps will extend his career

But what if he's one of those one in a million type athletes? It was just one rep, but he controlled that weight really well.

"Bro, do you even lift?":dancingpa

That is an impressive lift.

There are reasons that the state of Texas produces some of the top football players in the country.

That dedication in the weight room is one of those reasons.

Agreed! Do not see how lifting that wieght was not healthy for this kid he controlled it easily did not even pause.

There is a school of thought that lifting that much weight is harmful to the long term health of your joints. IMO, carrying around the body weight needed to be that strong is far more harmful then lifting a particular weight. You don't see 190lb guys squating 800lbs. And even if you 250lbs of muscle your still carrying around 250lbs.

Oh and as for the kid that benched 700 lbs, his Beth went up 130 lbs in one year. He may not be juicing year round, but he's definitely done some cycles.

HGH is a wonderful drug.

I am of that school of thought. There is a reason the NFL combine asks you to do 225 for reps instead of 1 rep max.

What is the reason???

This lift was made at the Texas High School POWER LIFTING CHAMPIONSHIPS, not a football combine.

The object is to lift more weight in a given movement than everyone.

Those lifts are the bench press, squat, and dead lift.

It looks like this kid did pretty well.

They don't ask for a 1 rep max because there is no point in regards to football. They are trying to measure strength as well as endurance.

It was also geared. Texas has both raw and geared PL comps at the high school level. Depending on the type of gear and skill level of the lifter you are looking at an increase of as low as 10-20lbs and upwards of 100-200lbs.

Now the original kid, the one with an 800lb squat...looks like he did it raw in a singlet. That's pretty darn impressive.
