Bengals agree with backup QB Johnson

Featured Replies

I know this was mentioned in the Free Agent thread but I think we need our own discussion of this one.

============================

Johnson was a fifth-round pick out of San Diego by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2008. He was ironically drafted by Jon Gruden, the Bengals offensive coordinator, Jay Gruden's, older brother. Johnson played four years in Tampa Bay, starting five games and playing in several others. He then signed to the Cleveland Browns in 2012 after both Colt McCoy andBrandon Weeden suffered injuries.

In his career, Johnson has completed 96 of 177 passes for 1,042 yards, five touchdowns and 10 interceptions for a career 57.7 quarterback rating.

This one has me scratching my head. Is Johnson a legit NFL QB? A wildcat QB? A read option QB? A better option than Gradkowski?

Anyone?

Who else is out there to sign? I guess in Andy we trust! oh boy. ......

Jason Campbell?

I was hoping for someone with NFL starting experience that could win a couple of games if Andy has a minor injury. Johnson may be that guy but how do we know?

Honestly dont know whos out their but I would feel more comfortable with Campbell, is he holding out for a spot on a roster where he might be able to compete for a Starting role?

Breaking an old NFL tradition (and rule)....the new QB Johnson will be given #85 to save on jersey costs as they had a few leftover. Bengals=joke

I honestly thought he was a 3...

Meaning you think Johnson is a third string NFL QB?

And I assume it will be a competition between Johnson and Robinson.

Even though I don't understand this one, the Bengals did not appear to make any effort to keep Bruce so I suppose they know what they are doing.

Showing confidence in Dalton? He sure won't be looking over his shoulder. :idunno:

Now we have the answer, according to Gruden Johnson can be used as a read option guy...

Now we just need a fast back.

HUGE pickup for Mikey the GM. Way to open the pocketbook--Dalton better stay healthy.
