KHSAA/Julian Tackett turning KY into a Football state???

Featured Replies

You are correct, they make FAR more on the boys basketball state tournament than the football playoffs, as a matter of fact I believe they make more on the girl's state tournament than the football championships!![/QUOTE]

They should.

For one it's indoors and secondly there are 15 games played in each of those state tournaments tournament vs. 6 in football. (Usually, this is where a 6 class joke comes in, and, I can't say enough how I'm totally against 6 classes as well).

I'd hope to goodness they make more money.

Wrong.

Football can't do 7 on 7 against outside competition in June.

Football can only do it in July after dead period, and only then, has about 2 weeks of it WHILE trying to practice, before they 7 on 7's stop due to the rules (can't have anymore after your first day of pads without them counting as a srimmage, which you only get one of).

Check the post closer, didn't say June, said summer!!

1 scrimmage. Wrong, EVERY sport gets 2 scrimmages.

Check the rules closer. Not every sport gets two scrimmage...football can play two, so long as they don't open up week 0.

Name me other sports that get penalized from having 2 scrimmages based off when they open their season? I honestly would like to know.

You know what's fun? Checking out the football and basketball rosters of our state universities and colleges of all levels, and noticing the ridiculous difference of Kentucky kids on those rosters amongst the two sports.

And, yes, before anybody reading this all of the sudden has a surge of brain power, more kids play football than basketball...but, still, in comparison, it's not even close.

With that said, I'm out.

Signed,

Football guy who:

-Loves football kids playing basketball (and, other sports), and whole heartedly WANTS them to do so.

-doesn't penalize football/basketball kids who have to miss for football workouts in June, so that they can do basketball.

-Thanks God everyday that my dad didn't buy into the cult like belief (usually from those dads/coaches who didn't play squat in HS or if they did, weren't worth a crap...like everything, there are exceptions to this) of me "focusing on one sport in high school"

-was still able to go to college and play all of my years, despite not "focusing" on one sport when in HS.

For the record 16th62nd, you might be the biggest fan of multi sport athletes out there (other than me of course), so that little rant I finished with is for anybody reading this who feels the exact opposite.

Have no problem with kids playing more than 1 sport, that is a personal choice, the same personal choice as a kid that decides to concentrate on just 1 sport, it is a personal choice!!

I didn't know anyone in this thread was promoting one sport athletes. Did I miss that?

Guess I missed it too!!!

Football has 2 weeks of spring practice AND they play passing league games in the summer, I'm like Spindoc, why do football guys always have to bring up basketball. ALL the sports can do things as soon as school is out if they want, not just basketball!!
Uh, you might want to re-read the OP. The basketball vs football issue was brought up in the OP. Impossible to discuss the issue in the OP without bringing up basketball.

Football starts on July 15th ended Dec. 3rd this year that is 141 plus 10 days of spring ball = 151.

Basketball starts Oct. 15th ended March 10th that is 147 plus 24 days in June = 171 days.

Plus there are tons of states that only allow 20 regular season games and tournament. I am all for basketball and kids playing all they can but both sports are fortunate as to what our state allows us to do, look at many other neighboring states to see how limited they are.
