March 20, 201313 yr I understand he is a walk on, but there is much hatred being thrown Harrow's way, while people love Polson. And it seems like, often time Polson received the PT in crunch time. In short, I'm trying to figure out how Polson was that much more effective than Harrow. It all comes down to their mental make-up. Production wise Harrow may have brought more, but his lack of confidence and subsequent effort would kill the team through the season. One thing you never had to question in Polson was his confidence or effort. A weak-minded floor general = a weak-minded team product.
March 20, 201313 yr After sleeping on it I have came to this conclusion. It doesn't really matter, I mean seriously its the NIT. By the time next year rolls around whos going to remember when you got beat out of the NIT or even who won the NIT, it doesn't matter. If it's not the big tournament then who cares. So definitely not sweating this one, kind of glad we can go ahead and end this season, 1st round NIT exit, NIT championship, doesn't make a difference to me who cares about either.
March 20, 201313 yr 3 words are the key to Archie's success next year: Pull Up Jumper He better learn how to play defense too. This was one of the worst defensive teams that I can remember.
March 20, 201313 yr He better learn how to play defense too. This was one of the worst defensive teams that I can remember. And that hurt them more than anything. Cal's teams win with defense.
March 20, 201313 yr I have never seen a team that got punched in the mouth so many times and have no response not even a heartbeat. I would have loved to have just seen this team play "pissed off" for a game.
March 20, 201313 yr Hugely disappointing season. I remember several posters mentioning what they would give up for a NC a couple years back. This was paying the piper I guess. Hope we're paid up.

Reminds me of Who's Line Is It, Anyway Welcome to the NIT: where everything's made up, and the points don't matter. That's right, the points are just like anyone standing behind Jennifer Lopez; they just don't matter.
March 20, 201313 yr Highjacked by who? Typical coaching bullcrap in my opinion. Calipari is lucky beyond belief that Darius Miller was here and that Anthony Davis was the next coming, and UK won a national championship, because this was a team that actually needed some coaching and HIM taking responsibility, and he put it all on them. I have been a Calipari fan back to his UMASS days, but he is copping out on this one. This is what is going to happen regularly with his success in recruiting the one and done's. He is as good as anyone at getting them to play together, but when he can't, he still needs to blame himself, not a bunch of 18 and 19 yo kids. He is the one getting $5.0 mio plus and needs to man up to it!!
March 20, 201313 yr ^ He just recently stated he's done a "crap job" coaching this team. There is blame to go around--with the coach & with the players.

March 20, 201313 yr I am not beating down Calipari, as I said, I have been a fan, but it starts at the top, and a good leader is responsible for his team....period. But I think he has taken responsibility, while also sharing some uncomfortable truths about some of his personnel.
March 20, 201313 yr But I think he has taken responsibility, while also sharing some uncomfortable truths about some of his personnel. But....if he wants to send them a message, Put them on the bench and keep them there for good. College basketball is a true dictatorship, the coach doesn't have to consult with anyone. Now, the talent behind the stars may not be as great, and they may get clubbed. I see too many coaches use the two class approach...the stars are treated one-way and the rest are treated another. Then the coach is amazed and surprised when it doesn't work out.

He didn't have a lot of bench options for everyone. And in some cases, the substitute would performed just as poorly as the starter (Poythress/Wiltjer).
March 20, 201313 yr He didn't have a lot of bench options for everyone. And in some cases, the substitute would performed just as poorly as the starter (Poythress/Wiltjer). No doubt that was an issue with this team...again on him, he's the coach. On the other hand, very often, in basketball, at many levels, the sub on the bench, if given the confidence of the coach may be a lot better than expected. No one can killl a 3-point shooter like a coach. Way to do that is pull him out every time they miss a shot or screw up, and not put them back in. Some coaches never have good 3-point shooting teams, and it is no mystery to me. Tubby was as bad as anyone. Take a historically good shooter, throw him in the game, makes it he stays, misses back on the bench....what a head trip.
