Boyle did lose some quality players last year but overall they were a young team. They have many skilled players back. Robbins at QB ,Burke and Hoskins two of the better running backs in the region. I could name several others, but those three really stand out. I agree Mercer will be better, but not enough to beat Boyle.

The schedule they are playing fits their needs for this season. Time for a team to grow and mature together and be ready when playoff time comes around. And I never thought the word "shameful" would come to mind when talking about a high school football schedule. :(

Most of the O-Line returns. Quarterback Drew Davis returns. Russell Sims and Chris Goodman return at receiver. Plenty of running backs in the stable to replace James Johnson. He won't be hard to replace anyways. Braxton Bradshaw should fill in nicely. Defensively they return enough and overall as a team they are returning more than Boyle County is. I've only seen 3 kids named returning for Boyle and that's Boyle County fans that can only name 3 kids. You tell me what Boyle has coming back for Mercer to be scared of.

I'm glad Tates Creek gets to scrimmage Boyle County this year. Will be fun. Looking forward to it.

That's a huge reach. Why should they schedule teams that are currently out of their league? That makes no sense at all. 'We are Boyle County so let's schedule a bunch of teams that we can't be competitive against.'

 

Just because Boyle County has scaled the Highlands mountain and planted a flag or two on top of it doesn't mean that Boyle County can be competitive against Highlands and teams of that stature every year. It is what it is. Programs lose themselves when they try to live up to the expectations of everyone else except themselves. I think the schedule is great for this year's team.

I don't know enough about this year but uh, people aren't talking Boyle County football like they used to. People used to be excited about the future. Now people are quiet. Take it how you want it. I am begging for some excitement and someone with more input on this season to chime in.

LOL!! I think Mercer is on the rise, but come on now, even with a win this year, when Boyle is supposedly down.....does not mean they will be the new second fiddle in the district! Maybe for one year. But we all know the expectations in Boyle are different than in Mercer.

Very true. I do think Mercer County will be better this year than in previous years and I do think with this year's incoming freshman class that Mercer County will good for the next 4 years. Better than Boyle? That remains to be seen. I have also heard a lot more about Mercer County than Boyle County recently. Based on what I have heard I expect a good game but I have no reason to believe that Mercer County will beat Boyle County yet.
