Have you never seen Alli Conner catch that girl could flat out get after it. Now playing at NKU

Is Alli Connor still recovering from last years injury? She doesn't seem to be getting as much playing time as last year.

Cleared and playing.

Agree. One hell of a player, love her competitiveness.

When a ball is hit to the right side how would you defend it? Lets say it is just far enough to pull the 1st basemen away from the bag.

A. Have the first baseman stay at the bag and have the 2nd baseman try an make the play.

B. Have the first baseman field the ball and flip to 2nd baseman who is covering.

C. Have the first baseman field the ball and flip to the pitcher who is covering.

D. None of the above

Love to hear some opinions.

Everybody is moving on the play when a ball is hit, nothing wrong with 2b or pitcher covering...Someone better be there. Both should be moving, reacting to the ball. You have a double safety firstbase, should be no problem with injury of pitcher covering. Same thing as backing up 1st base, depends where it is hit, everybody again should be moving. Sometimes, 2nd backs up throw to 1st, sometimes it is right fielder and sometimes the catcher. If players react to where the ball is hit, everybody should be moving somewhere, no one standing and watching.

Have you ever seen the pitcher cover first in a game? If so how did it work out.

I have seen it on a rare ocassion, mostly when the 1st and 2nd baseman isn't talking. I don't recommend it.

Yes, line drive to 1st, 1st baseman was good at diving, not good at getting back to her feet. Underhand to the pitcher who was quick off the mound who beat runner to 1st. Also, this pitcher would cover bunts on 1st base side, unless runner on third and 1st baseman was playing way in. There is different ways to run coverages, depending on the athletic ability of players involved.

Sounds like the pitcher you are talking about is in the minority.

If it was a line drive wouldn't the 2nd baseman already been moving that way. Would it have been easier for her to cover first than the pitcher. Again if it works great, I have never seen it.

If it was a line drive there would be no need to cover first, correct?

This I can totally agree with. :thumb:

You can leave NKY and drive to Lexington by going 71 south to Louisville then 64 east, just bc you can go different ways doesn't mean it is the best or smartest way to do something.

Never A. Don't assume 2nd basemen will catch it. B would be preferred. There are 2 types of pitchers, 1- pitcher only. 2-pitcher/athelete. 1 hardly ever gets out of the circle, and 2 can cover first if needed. If the pitcher covers first they should practice it. If done right there will be no collisions.

Pitcher #1 you probably don't want out of the circle. Pitcher #2 will probably field all bunts as well as cover first. The only time our pitcher comes out of the circle is when there is a fly ball about to land in it.

Jeanie Finch is probably the best pitcher athlete ever and I have never seen her cover first, just saying!

I love A, to many times I see first baseman go to far off the bag to get a ball then there isn't enough time for anyone to get to first. Now if its a hard shot to first and only 1st can get it then yes by all means catch the ball.

I know the golden rule is when doing infield practice you should practice using the 2.5 time, which is kind of like pop time for catchers. By the time the ball hits the bat if the fileder can not get the ball to first in 2.4 seconds or less you should try a different way.
