You have to know Grant in his Freshmen year! Big kid, quite kid, maybe even shy kid, never said a word. Well we had a senior get hurt in a game and Grant was called up and his 1st game was against Hamilton Badin (BTW if you know anything about Ohio Baseball then you know how good Badin is) well Grant goes 1 BB and 1 K and is as nervous as can be.

 

I talk to him after the game and tell him to relax as if Krumps didn't think he could play at the varsity level he wouldn't be playing. Told him that he needed to believe in himself and trust Kumps and told him "You Belong" up here.

 

Well in the next game vs. HHS he does a little better and I keep telling him before each of his bats "You Belong".

 

His third game is vs. St. Henry and he starts to believe me that he indeed does belongs as he goes 4 for 4, 3 base hits, a double a run scored and a RBI. Well it's been "You belong" every since......between Grant and I!

Congrats to Grant. That makes 2 Northern Ky kids to sign with Louisville joining Holy Cross' Blake Tiberi who signed there last fall. The Cards found themselves 2 tremendous baseball players for sure. Good luck to them both !!!

After reading TOG's explanation of how he came to call him his nickname, sounds like the boy just needed a little courage like the Lion in the Wizard of Oz and once he figured out he belonged he was unstoppable.
