Lee Co. 60 Owsley 39

Featured Replies

Lee County has a very good team. I picked them to be in the top 3 in the region before the season started and I still think they are. I also picked them on the BGP Pick All A 16 contest to win the 14th region.

Owsley had to play a near perfect game to make this one close and they didn't. They missed way too many put-backs and layups, missed too many free throws, and rushed too many shots. Lee played very stingy defense, and didn't give Owsley many uncontested shots.I was really impressed with their D. And Rich was a load to deal with in the post.

Owsley dug themselves into an early hole, and Lee never allowed them to climb out of it.

I said earlier in another thread that when Lee is clicking on all cylinders they're hard to handle. Tonight their cylinders were well oiled.

But Owsley will be okay. There's still a month of the season remaining and they've got some time left to make corrections and improve.

:thumb: Rich is a strong player and a leader on the floor. Even when he may not contribute 15 points in a game, he still leads his team in other ways.

Good luck on the rest of the season Professor.

Sounded to me like Owsley just couldn't play TEAM ball, rather they played SMITH ball. IMO. They better figure out quick that they must play as a team to win. No more of this Smith and Neeley only.

Lee just has the Owls outmatched. Owsley played hard, gave it their absolute best, but Lee County just has too much defense. In my opinion, Owsley gave a better showing than Wolfe, particularly in the heart department.

The Owls played very poorly besides robert. They looked like they did at the first of the season. Hopefully this is a wake up call for th owls so the can change by district.

I did not see Smith play well tonite, shot very poorly and wanted to handle the ball way to much, Again him and Neely both back to recieve the inbound pass, I thought Daniel was the point guard.

It wasn't really like that. The younger players were involved early on, but they played a little nervous, missing numerous shots. Four kids that played a lot tonight have never played JV or varsity ball before this year. They look to Neeley, Smith, and Congleton for leadership. Lee just did a great job defensively on Owsley, and didn't allow many open looks. The best shots the Owls got all night were on offensive rebounds....and they couldn't even make those. Their free throw shooting was horrible as well.

Lee just did a good job on the Owls' veteran players. When the Owls were down these players tried to get them back in it, probably a little too hard ( one on one plays, etc). Lee's defense just wouldn't allow for much of anything else.

It looks to me that Smith is the topic again in this thread. What is it about this kid that you all hate so much? Is it because he is usually the best player on the floor? I think you all should give this Owlsey team a break, and quit pointing fingers at individuals. It doesnt matter who handled the ball. Owsley didnt even run an offense. It looked to me Smith wasnt the only person on his team forcing bad shots. I still think this kid is a great player; no matter what you guys have to say about him. Give it a break!!!

Smith is a very good player...i agree i dont see why people hate him either.

I agree. There too much hammering on Smith, but only by a few, and why???I have no idea. He gives it all he's got every night out. Owsley just had one of those nights tonight. Nothing seemed to go right. One or two players can't be blamed.

At least Robert played good. Good win for Lee and good luck.[/quote

I do not know anyone who has anything against Robert Smith. But I believe he was mentioned first by an Owls fan and again by Owls fan about how well he played. I just disagree with those opinions. I wish him well and his teammates also.

But I question the above quote after a 21 point loss in a tournament game.

If Robert doesn't play tonight it could have been a 41 point loss. He does makes a difference, but you're entitled to your opinions.

Maybe it is because that is all we hear form the Owl faithful, how when he returned all would be saved. I feel for Daniel and Trey who have played thier butts off ALL SEASON and get no credit from thier own fans. I feel both Daniel and Trey are just as good as Robert maybe not athletically but on the floor they both play smart and very hard. These two are the heart of the team and no doubt having a athletic player as Robert join the team has helped the overall team. But the love fest laid on Robert and Robert only is unfair to his teammates. This I have heard from many parents from the Owl faithful. Remember Robert is only playing to stay in Baseball shape. That is a Quote from Sixtfeetsix. I really do like the Owlsley team whether you believe me or not I do not care. This is a team game and not a one man show and it is not from the outside giving that impression it is from the Owl faithful on this forum that lead to that conclusion. This is the last time I will mention the Smith name as to not raise the fury of my neighbors.

Exactly what I am saying everyone shares the glory and the blame. It is a team game

Lee simply took Owsley out of their offense tonight. They did an excellent job of shutting them down, and it didn't leave many options but one on one plays. Maybe Robert's just trying too hard to help. But against South Floyd and June Buchanan he played within the team concept. Lee is just really familiar with the Owls, I guess, and have them well scouted. But I agree, they need to look for Trey much, much more. Trey has a lot of talent. But Lee's man to man tonight just bogged down all of the Owl player imo. I will give them credit for that.
