I didn't read one post in this thread, I never do for a State of the Union, as the presidents party will have 95%+ awing over anything and everything he said, and the other party will have 95%+ of their people making negative comments about anything and everything the president says.... Is Obama really trying to destroy the economy and families. I totally agreed with his idea that a family of two, fulltime workers at minimum wage are still under the poverty line. That's just not right. But, how many people do you know with at least a high school diploma who don't make above a minimum wage? There is that side of the coin, too. I loved what he said about education, in a sense, quit trying to make clones of everybody. Every child isn't 4 year college material, just like I'm not farming material. Which, as you know, he said to raise the pay to $9. However, he could also keep the minimum wage at what it is and drop how much people make off welfare (or those that can work, but choose not to do so; I don't have a problem with those on welfare who truly need some added assistance).

As in, companies can not afford to hire people at say $9.00 hour, without raising their prices, which no one will now buy, and there for those 8 employees at $9.00 no make $0.00. What do you think is a fair minimum wage?

A grown adult should have the work ethic to advance in their career above a minimum wage job. They aren't meant to support families, by definition they are entry level positions. It isn't on me to support bad life decisions. Not to mention the jobs that will be lost when it is raised.

What do you think is a fair minimum wage? It should at least be $8.00 an hr. 8x40 hours=320 a week, 640 every pay period (before taxes). I don't know if the answer is to add more tax breaks for companies to hire. My problem I have with the minimum wage is it doesn't offer incentive for people to move away from government assistance. In most cases, some people are worse off working 40 hours a week at 7.25 than they are receiving government assistance. IMO if we as America want to reduce government assistance, minimum wage is a starting point.
