38th District Draw?

Featured Replies

WOW!!

So, 3 of the top 8 teams (according to latest BGP poll) will be staying at home for Region.

Yes. Nicholas or Robertson AND St. Pat or Bracken will be in the region. I'll keep my comments to myself.

Going to be very different regional tourney this year.

Also, it was decided that all 4 district teams will now host the 38th District Tournament. 2014 @ Pendleton, 2015 @ Robertson, 2016 at Nicholas, 2017 at Harrison. No problem with Nicholas and Harrison and haven't seen Robertson's new digs, BUT there is no way that PC's gym is capable of hosting. With two bands, cheerleaders, team passes... There won't be 700 available seats. It's my understanding that if there is an overflow crowd, those folks who don't get in will be allowed in the auxiliary gym where video will be available, along with live radio feed. Can't wait for that.

That will be miserable at PC. They will be jammed in there, with no windows to open. They should sell the auxiliary tickets at a discount. I guess I will be listening to WCYN atleast once out of the 4 year rotation.

Everybody wants to host now. Since the new 38th was formed in 06, I can only recall the 06 tourney when the crowd was so packed folks had to be turned away, and that is when all 4 schools played on the same night. In order to put the tourney at Harrison or Nicholas, fans will have to come to the games, and have to be turned away. With so many college games on tv and so many other forms of entertainment at your fingertips the days of packed district tourneys are all but over.

As far as seeding goes, it will never happen in the 38th as long as the same 4 teams comprise it. Nicholas and Robertson will never vote to seed, the draw is their only chance 4 out of every 5 years to make the region

And it takes a majority (3 or 4 out of 4) to change, correct?

Correct. Majority decides regarding seeding.

Ok folks, it wasnt such a long time ago that a MAJOR district game was played in a very small gym. The year was 2005 in Bracken County that saw Brossart and PC draw each other for a first round matchup. The line to get in the gym wrapped around the building. The atmosphere was awesome and the game was even better. While in the line, people talked high school basketball and their favorite team. That is high school basketball at its finest! Let schools host District games and participate in the exitement of it. Definitely, regional games need to be in the larger venues. On a side note, have been to the last 5 38th district tournaments and there has always been room, so the argument for the larger gym at least in the 38th doesnt fly. As for the seeding, read this post again. Two teams ranked in the top 20 of the state shouldn't have to play an elimination game in the first round of the district tournament. They both earned the right to go to the regionals. Nuff said!

I'm assuming its a split vote every time.

From the information I was told Harrison County voted against seeding maybe someone closer to the situation can discuss this in greater detail.

Could not agree withyou more. Terrible decision and I am from Pendleton. The tournaments should only be held at sites that can accommodate the crowds. Had to watch on video at a regional final at GRC many years ago when Ronnie Lyons played for Mason County. Was not a happy camper!

The regional final that will go down in infamy. They still talk about that one here in the 10th. I was a high-schooler in Maryland at the time, but I have to hear about it from the wife about this time every year.

And while she's probably biased, she says Ronnie Lyons was the best pure shooter ever from around these here parts.

My comments would go deeper than that, but I agree.

In a way I agree playing the same team over the last few years the same draw is kinda getting old.

They have air conditioning at PCs gym. No windows needed. Back in the day when they hosted before it was packed and everyone survived, they will again.

The proposal was made by the PC AD. In the presentation it was said that Harrison County would lose revenue...I am guessing that is why they voted it down. This was reported in the Cynthiana Democrat.

I would think it is more about comfort and convienence and less about survival. It will be interesting to see what the attendance wlll be this year and whether or not PC's gym would have been able to hold it. I am sure the figures we will receive are paid, but I will be curious to see what the total attendance is.

Here is an interesting part in the Democrat this week.

"All schools except Pendleton County recalled that the meeting for the draw last year in Nicholas County had an agreement that Harrison County was to be the host school. At the same time as this discussion was taking place, both Robertson and Pendleton County's representatives stated that they wanted to be put into the rotation to host both the boys' and girls' district tournaments. As site selection has to be a unanimous vote, Pendleton County held out to get its way or the site for this year's tournament would go to the KHSAA commissioner for a decision."

Really unfortunate draw for both Harrison and PC. Having said that, I fully expect this game to be a classic. Personally, I want to see the best teams play it out for a spot in the Sweet 16 and that is what is most upsetting about the draw/draws is that 2 of the 4 better teams in the region won't be going to the Regional Tourney these two along with Augusta or Mason.

Comfort and convenience for Harrison I guess. I have attended the district for years and have no problem with harrison hosting it but there is always more people from PC than Harrison at the games. You like the home court advantage too I would imagine.
