8 20-Win Teams In KY

Featured Replies

Cooper's losses were to two top 15 teams by a combined 8 pts and to the #2 rated team in VA behind Oak Hill Academy.

The Clinton Co loss, that you said cooper won by 2, is probably a bad loss and Sully will be the first to tell you that. His team didn't show up in the second half. Plain and simple.

You talk about Covcath and Dixie schedules being tough, which I agree with, yet Holmes beat both by double digits. Come on dude. You can't say Holmes is undefeated cause of their schedule when Holmes beat the same teams you're saying would have same record if they played that schedule.

I don't need to look at a team schedule to judge whether they are good or not. See Shelby Valley and Elliot Co. Both played terrible schedules yet won a state championship and made it to the semi finals at Rupp.

Newcath, Holmes, Covcath, and yes even Cooper can play with and beat any team outside of the top 5 or 6. To say a team has a record cause of their schedule is seriously disrespecting all of these kids' hard work that got them to where they are.

If you would read my posts you would see that I stated that it doesn't make Holmes inferior to CCH and NCC because they haven't played the same schedule Walter.

The fact is Holmes has not played the schedule that NCC, CCH, HC, or Dixie has played. I'm not taking anything away from Holmes, as I do think they are the best team in the 9th with NCC but your going to sit here and say if Holmes played Bullit East, Moeller, Withrow, Scott County, Trinity, Montgomery County that they would be sitting at 23-0? My point being is that the 9th, as I stated earlier, is very top heavy. Outside of the top 3 with 20 wins, HC, Dixie, and Cooper, it's not that strong. Cooper is in the top 5 but their schedule as I have laid out for you isn't all that tough compared to HC and Dixie. If you switched schedules I think you would see very similar results by HC, Dixie, and Cooper.

It all relates back to the significance of 20 wins by 3 9th region teams. I am saying that its great for the 9th region for 3 teams to have 20 wins already but like you said none of them are likely to be in or beat a top 5 team in the state. So I'm confused on your logic because you say that yet, do you firmly believe that if Holmes played Trinity, Scott County, or Bullit East they are undefeated? NCC and CCH with 20 wins is more impressive to me than Holmes 23-0 record because of the competition they are going up against. And I am not taking anything away from the kids, none of my posts are inferring that. I am just explaining the significance of the 3 particular teams having 20 wins. If the 11th, 7th, or 6th region top teams were playing 9th region competition about 80% of their games, like the majority of 9th region teams do, I believe you would see more schools in those regions with 20 wins. The reason that the 11th, 7th, and 6th region don't have 3 teams with 20 wins is because their regions have more competition year in and year out. They beat up on each other whereas in the 9th like this year...Holmes, NCC, and CCH are dominating pretty much all 9th region teams besides when they play each other.

It's a good thing for any team to have 20 wins in Feb. but realistically the 9th region is top heavy. Top 3 teams all have 20 wins however 4-7 are just above .500 and 8-10 have losing records. And all of the 9th region teams schedules are primarily loaded with 9th region games.

Teams in the 11th and 6th, by far the best two regions, constantly beat up on each other and that is primarily the reason I would think there isn't more 20 win teams out of those regions. 9th region is deinitely one of the top 5 regions in the state year and year out but the reason for 3 teams with 20 wins has a lot to do with the rest of the 9th region being pretty weak.

I agree with the above post 100%. The 9th region doesn't do very well when they play outside of their region; especially when they play decent teams from other regions. The team representing the 9th last year in the sweet sixteen, was the worst team at the state tournament by far. Let's just face it, the 9th is a football region (excluding Covington Holmes).

I would say that the 9th is a much better basketball region, than either the 6th or 11th is in football.

9th Region is easily the 4th best region this year top to bottom and in most years they are top 3, just behind the 7th and 11th.

 You need to get out of NoKy more often.

May I ask, exactly what team has a brutal schedule in the 9th outside of CCH, HC, NCC? Not even Holmes has a tough schedule.

100 percent true. I will add that this region is down in talent across the board.

As much as kids in this area play AAU you would think we would see more of a treand in better basketball Talent.

I would say that the 9th is a much better basketball region, than either the 6th or 11th is in football.

Which means what exactly? And I bet it's a draw in soccer. Relevant.

Let me use an extreme example to show where you are not following Showtime's point.

It's 2011/12.

Let's say the UK Wildcats played in the Ivy League.

Let's say that Duke played a few Ivy league teams in addition to big boy basketball in the ACC.

The fact that UK could beat Duke doesn't preclude us saying that Duke plays a toucher schedule.

It just means that they are better than Duke.

The fact that now Holmes beat CCH and let's say they beat NCC next week does NOT mean that those other two haven't played a tougher schedule.

Regardless of the teams difference in schedule, no matters whos is stronger and whos is weaker, the only thing that matter is that when the two repected schools face off, is that has the teams schedule prepared them for the oppent that they are facing as well as the final outcome of the game. It doesnt matter who as the stronger or lesser schedule. What matter is has that teams schedule prepared them. On any given day anyone can be beat. And there is only one common denominatior and that is when the ball is tip up between the two teams Who is better in those 32 mins.

Reagardless what your thought is of HOLMES Schedule you cant take away what those young boys have accomplished this season. The fact remains is they are the only undefeated school in the Commonweath and until someone beats them you cant take that away.

Holmes schedule "is what it is" and they are undefeated. Good luck the rest of the way.

Competitive for sure but we all know the 9th has done a ton of struggling once they hit that Rupp Arena hardwood.

WHile all of the above is true it has ZERO to do with the point of this thread. We all know Holmes is good.

Most years it's 7th, 11th, 10th, 6th then the rest.

Agree.

WHile all of the above is true it has ZERO to do with the point of this thread. We all know Holmes is good.

When someone brought up the strength of Schedule is when you should have wrote this:laugh: I wa simply chiming in on that particular comment. My statment was going to with what someone was refering to the Bulldogs having a lesser schedule, with that said it does have a point in this thread in my opinion.

I'm struggling to figure out the point of this thread.

Pretty straight forward and one I would think you would opine upon.

Not many 20-win teams in the state. Yet the 9th has 3 of them.

What does that say? Good or bad for the 9th?

Any time you have 3 20 win teams in the region I'd think it would be great for the region. With that said, it's hard to overlook the schedules of those teams. Hard to rate them when they are an unknown vs. other quality opponents. Holmes is undefeated, yet it's hard not to deny the unknown factor about them, agree?
