8 20-Win Teams In KY

Featured Replies

I read a tweet yesterday that said prior to any games on Thursday there were (I think) 8 20-win team in KY and 3 of them were from the 9th.

Not sure if that's a positive or a negative for the 9th.

I believe it to be a positive. Regardless of schedule strength, your team is doing something right if it has won 20 games by the beginning of February.

Three teams from the 9th and two teams from the 10th. Four out of the 8 from NKY and five from two regions. I think that is a good thing.

It's a good thing for any team to have 20 wins in Feb. but realistically the 9th region is top heavy. Top 3 teams all have 20 wins however 4-7 are just above .500 and 8-10 have losing records. And all of the 9th region teams schedules are primarily loaded with 9th region games.

Teams in the 11th and 6th, by far the best two regions, constantly beat up on each other and that is primarily the reason I would think there isn't more 20 win teams out of those regions. 9th region is deinitely one of the top 5 regions in the state year and year out but the reason for 3 teams with 20 wins has a lot to do with the rest of the 9th region being pretty weak.

Or, maybe a few of those near .500 teams have a brutal schedule and knew they wouldn't have the same record they had last year. :)

May I ask, exactly what team has a brutal schedule in the 9th outside of CCH, HC, NCC? Not even Holmes has a tough schedule.

9th Region is easily the 4th best region this year top to bottom and in most years they are top 3, just behind the 7th and 11th.

Cooper is 16-4 and Newport is 15-6...wouldn't consider them just above .500.

You can say this or that about the scheduling but if you compare Holmes scores against common opponents with the top teams, you'll notice similar results. Covcath, Cooper, Newcath, and Holmes might not be able to beat the top 5or 6 teams in the state, but I'd put them against anyone else and like their odds.

I understand what you are saying, but I think the next tier of teams in the 9th region, IMO 4 thru 8 are very good teams. Those being Cooper, Dixie, Holy Cross, Newport, and Boone County, and they can not be over looked. The top three would be the favorites but anyone can win this region. I would agree the 6th and 11th are the strongest, and I would even throw the 7th in there. The 9th is definitely close behind.

Holmes 23-0

NewCath 23-2

CovCath 20-4

I will disagree with you. Cooper has 4 losses, correct?

1. O'Connell, Va 57-43

2. Clinton County 48-46

3. NCC 44-42

4. Holmes 50-44

2 of their losses come from the 9th region. Clinton county was hammered by CCH. The only loss that comes out of the 9th region is to O'Connell, VA? Who I honestly don't know a thing about. Played them at Scott, so for your sake I will say that is a good loss to a rly good team.

Now for their 16 wins.

4 wins in the 10th region

11 wins in the 9th region

1 win in the 8th region

Their remaining games

1 8th region SK

4 9th region CCH, Newport, Boone, Dixie

1 10th region Scott

Now for Newport 15-6

Losses

1. Holmes

2. Dixie

3. Brossart

4. NCC

5. NCC

6. Boone

All of their losses are to 9th region teams.

Wins

Beat Carroll County by 1, not sure what region they are in. For the rest of their opponents, all within 8th and 10th regions.

So both Cooper and Newport are both beating inferior 10th and 8th region teams and that makes their schedule hard? Give me a break. HC and Dixie have tougher schedules. If HC and Dixie had these identical Schedules they wouldn't have a 11-9 and 12-11 record.

You can say what you want about holmes, naturally your biased but to compare common opponents based off who CCH, Holmes, and NCC have played doesn't do much for me. High School outcomes has a lot to do with math ups. Theory is proven by Clinton County, CCH hammers them by 30 and then Cooper wins by 2. Doesn't mean CCH is 28 points better than Cooper, which was also proven.

I'm stating the facts and the facts are that Holmes has not played the schedule that CCH, NCC, HC, or Dixie has played this year. Hence while they are 23-0. HC, NCC, Dixie, and CCH have played the teams in the 6th, 7th, or 11th regions as well as ohio opponents that are top tier. Does that mean Holmes is inferior to CCCh and NCC because they haven't played those teams? No, certainly not, however the record 23-0 is what it is because of that schedule. Change schedules and its a little different.

Are some of you confusing the 6th and 7th? Because you'd be mistaken to say the 6th was better. From top to bottom the 7th is always the best in the state. This year is no different.

Most years it's 7th, 11th, 10th, 6th then the rest.

Interesting note on Bishop O'Connell. First they have about 4 or 5 legit D1 players.

Secondly, one of their foreign players is suspected of being about 21 years old.

Cooper's losses were to two top 15 teams by a combined 8 pts and to the #2 rated team in VA behind Oak Hill Academy.

The Clinton Co loss, that you said cooper won by 2, is probably a bad loss and Sully will be the first to tell you that. His team didn't show up in the second half. Plain and simple.

You talk about Covcath and Dixie schedules being tough, which I agree with, yet Holmes beat both by double digits. Come on dude. You can't say Holmes is undefeated cause of their schedule when Holmes beat the same teams you're saying would have same record if they played that schedule.

I don't need to look at a team schedule to judge whether they are good or not. See Shelby Valley and Elliot Co. Both played terrible schedules yet won a state championship and made it to the semi finals at Rupp.

Newcath, Holmes, Covcath, and yes even Cooper can play with and beat any team outside of the top 5 or 6. To say a team has a record cause of their schedule is seriously disrespecting all of these kids' hard work that got them to where they are.

Let me use an extreme example to show where you are not following Showtime's point.

It's 2011/12.

Let's say the UK Wildcats played in the Ivy League.

Let's say that Duke played a few Ivy league teams in addition to big boy basketball in the ACC.

The fact that UK could beat Duke doesn't preclude us saying that Duke plays a toucher schedule.

It just means that they are better than Duke.

The fact that now Holmes beat CCH and let's say they beat NCC next week does NOT mean that those other two haven't played a tougher schedule.
