8th and 9th regions POY

Featured Replies

Just stop. You think hatton can keep up with quickness of Bolden? If so, your crazy. No one in the 9th region can. Hatton is strictly a scorer. Why hasn't hatton increased his offers other than Winthrop, Samford, and Jacksonville st.? All of your points are trying to sell him on the fact he can score. We as fans already know that as well as college coaches. That facet of his game isn't in question nor have I questioned it. It's his versatility and his quickness on defensive end. If you can't guard in college the likelihood of you playing is minimal. If he plays shooting guard at d1 level I would say he is going to be slower than about 80% of the opponents he is guarding.

Bolden is a pure point guard and hatton is an undersized 2 guard who lacks the quickness to defend at the high D1 level. Hatton can't play point guard at D1 level. Also, Bolden may not be done growing and even with his current frame he is still one of the most athletic guards in the state. Not to mention he is only going to get stronger. Athleticism and quickness is something you can't teach.

Bolden is going to be the most highly recruited kid out of Nky in a long time. Xavier and UC are already on him. I'm not seeing the same for Hatton....

And again this is not meant to take away from Hatton at all. The kid is one of the best hoopers we have seen in the 9th region ever but in comparison to Bolden those are just my opinions.

I really don't see Bolden growing that much more he is a 17 year old sophomore. IMO

Bolden may be the 'hot' thing now. Hatton is still the better prospect.

I will politely disagree and let the outcomes speak for themselves.

My point exactly. Not going to grow, never going to be as big or gifted as BHatt

Let me first qualify anything I say here. I don't know either of these two kids and have never seen either play, wouldn't know them if they both dunked over me and called me old man. With that said, heres my two cents. POY for the region is a high school award, correct? Showtime, you are making a lot of arguments about who will be the better player at the college level. And everything you say might be 100% correct. However, thats not really supposed to be part of the argument. There are many examples of kids who are very good high school players who don't really have the ability to take it to the next level, or maybe not as much ability as another player who projects much higher at the college level. Just because player A has a lower ceiling than player B doesn't mean player A wasn't the better high school player or didn't have the better season/career. Just my opinion.

Didnt Brandon grow after his soph year?

I understand what you are trying to say but bolden still had the better year than hatton this year, IMO. His team finished with 1 loss and they are the co-favorites with NCC to win the 9th region. Dixie has continued to struggle all year long and there has been constant animosity about Hatton taking too many shots. IMO, it's not hattons fault and maybe it's just a lack of the talented sophomore class at Dixie ready to step up and play at te varsity level. However, Boldens individual numbers combined with his teams success are better than hattons this year, IMO.

How in the world do you know whether Bolden is going to grow or not? Second, whether he grows or not isn't as big of a deal as your making it out to be because with his size right now he can still be a D1 point guard. His athleticism and quickness Is enough already. If he doesn't grow, will it hurt his chances of going higher in d1, sure. But what your failing to realize is that Hatton is undersized at shooting guard and that is not going to change at the D1 level. As for Bolden he MAY or MAY not grow but again he is only a sophomore so making a statement saying the kid is for sure not going to grow is inaccurate.

What you are not realizing, as Clyde mentioned, the ceiling is unknown for bolden right now. As for Hatton the ceiling has been hit. Scouts and colleges know what they are getting from Hatton right now. But with Bolden there are so many other factors that remain in question. But for UC and XU, those being locals, to already be on him at this early stage of his career leads us to believe things are only going to go up for Bolden.

The size thing is overrated. If you're a PG with a strong handle and can penetrate you'll play high D1. There aren't many 2015 PGs in the country with Bolden's handle.

If I'm deciding on who's most deserving of POY, I'm certainly not going to base it on how each others team performed. All that tells me is who had the better supporting cast. I know Hattons had 2 defenders run at him most of the season due to lack of offensive threats on his team.

Purdue is supposed to be at Holmes tonite.

Take Bolden off Holmes and you think they only lose one game this year? Give me a break. With your assessment, POY should go to whichever kid scores the most or best stat line? If the is the case POY should go to Mitchell Blewett of Covington Latin. He is averaging 28 ppg and I am sure teams are doubling him. Wouldn't be surprised if his rebounding stats are better than both bolden and hatton.

The double teaming effect is irrelevant because Bolden has been doubled as well and he put up about 15 points in 2 minutes against NCC when they lost in double OT. Hatton scored on NCC when they doubled too. Therefore they both can score whether they are doubled or not doubled.

You have to factor in the success of the team. Why does the all tournament teams consist of more players from the winning team and runner up team than the teams that lost in the first round?

I was hearing UC, XU, Purdue, and a few others. Never heard anymore on the others. Any idea?

I do see your point about Bolden being POY but you also have to look at what Hatton has done to playing with a young team. Bolden also shot 35 times against NewCath. He did go off in the forth Q but I don't think he can shoot like that all the time. I wish Bolden and Hatton best of luck the rest of their high school years.

Take a deep breath. First off, if you read my post I didn't say one was deserving over the other. I really like both players and think they both bring a different game to the table. You obviously don't like Hatton based on what I've read in this thread...no big deal. You're just one opinion. As far evaluating a player of the year, no way does the players team record reflect the individual performance of a player. Coaches aren't that simple minded....take a look at who the coaches voted for.

In fact a players team record does play a role in determining a POY. If a team is weaker generally the star player on that team is going to have better stats than a player from a better team. For instance, the weaker team is going to need their star player to take many more shot attempts. A team's best player has a significant impact on the outcome of their team's record in regards to high school basketball. How many times do you see a POY at any level with a losing record?

It has nothing to do with me liking/disliking Hatton. If you read my posts i am very unbiased. I simply stated my opinion that Hatton is behind Campbell and Bolden this year in POY, IN MY OPINION. If anything the majority of posters on this thread are completely biased towards Hatton.
