Conner 54 Highlands 40

Ouch again! Have the Birds mailed in the rest of the year or are they still working hard?

Pathetic is all I can say.

Birds come out in zone and get behind 15-4.

Horrible shooting, its painful to watch

Witte has flu symptoms played anyway and probably didn't matter the 15 min he played.

Turnovers against weak pressure.

Not much of a crowd.

Conner will get pounded in Districts. They are not that good. Barker is a football player clearly.

Hemmerich was allowed to drill a bunch of set shot threes.

Take some aspirin and call me in the morning Q. The kids tried hard tonight. Hope Witte gets to feeling better.

I took this one last nite to see for myself and I have some observations, both good and bad.

The Good

1) Highlands plays hard, they don't quit

2) They clearly out rebounded Conner last nite and won that war.

3) Flynn might not be winning games, but he is not losing them on purpose or because of a lack of effort or passion, same can be said about the kids.

4) Some really good looks with some but not all falling. Coach Shields used to say "if you are not hot keep shooting until you get hot"

The Bad

1) Highlands passes up way too many open shots. I saw several times last nite open shots passed up in order to get the ball to "the scorers"

Well guess what, when a team is not winning, there is no longer a go to guy or guys, take the open shot, I don't care who you are.

2) No way do they use True size to their advantage, I know he may not have polished skills for a big guy but...

3) Most disappointing thing of all was to see the amount of clowning around on the bench during the game, players talking to girls in the stands, etc

Hang in there Birds :thumb:

Congrats to Conner on the win!

The flu. The gift that keeps on giving. Hope all our NKY players get healthy soon!

Did a coach put a stop to it?

The problems with the team are going on out there on the floor, not on the bench.

Once again, terrible start, no points, big deficit, and end result is loss. Fourteen points at half against a Conner zone that was not overly aggressive.

Birds start out in a zone. A 3/2 zone against a team with less size and equal athletiscm. HHS matched up with them at every position. Zone invited the 3, and Conner made shots. Conner up 15-5 after 4 minutes. HHS switched to a man to man and without a couple of transition baskets, Conner would have been scoreless for the balance of the quarter and into the second qtr. Halftime score was 25-14. Conner scored 15 against Birds zone in the first 4 minutes, and 10 against mtm in the next 12.

This HHS team can not get down 11 points and win. Walk the ball up the floor, pass around perimeter of zone (30 plus feet from the hoop), if all the passing does't result in a turnover - eventually take a guarded 20 ft jump shot. A recipe for 30 to 40 points a night.

Hemmerich had a great night shooting the ball. His form is a little unorthodox. Not pretty, but the end result last night was nothing but net. I guess he had 5 threes. Barker was a non-factor.

Highlands has Schroder Padeia in Cincinnati on Tues then travels to Holmes on Friday. Birds finished their 6 game home stand 2 and 4, now go on the road for the next 4 games.

Hopefully the football banquet today can serve as a diversion for the boys that play both sports.

I see a group that is very deflated. These boys are competitors that are used to success. The season has been tough on players, coaches, parents, and fans.

The girls in the stands are managers/statisticians. There are a few of them who have been sitting behind the bench all season. I'm guessing they might be asking the players about who scored, or who got the assist etc. if they missed it. It's been going on all year.

We could start another thread called "Chicks on the Bench, Agree or disagree?" Sam Wyche wouldn't have it!

BTW, Glad they're not losing on purpose!
