The Brossart junior class won the 7th grade championship from St Mary and the Freshman class won. The junior class won from St Joe for NCC.

In Coach Feldmann's defense, he gambled today, playing zone and triangle and two in the first half, with the goal to limit Kiernan and Mayes. He actually accomplished what he set out to do. Kiernan did not score a point in the half, and Mayes had two - impressive!!!

 

HOWEVER, by doing so it freed up Stephanie Lewis who put up 12 in the first half, and allowed Ainsley Davenport to knock down a pair of threes as NCC literally played horse. Unfortuanately, Kiernan was still a force in the paint and the Breds defense limited the L-Stangs to 14 points for the half. Down 24-14 the Feldmann had to go back to the drawing board, played man and pressed, freeing up Kiernan and Mayes to combine for 29 points in the second half.

 

Nobody in our camp is proud of this loss. We too had hoped for better results this time around, BUT it didn't work out and the final score is what it is. NCC is the bigger, brawnier, more physical team, and were certainly the better team on this day. I do think that when we got behind the springs flew out, a lot of one on the world ensued and contriubuted to our demise. Futscher needs to add some lbs over the off-season and get stroger and more commanding with the ball. Right now Kiernan and Mayes are too big, too storng and too physical for the Mustangs bigs.

Im gonna agree with you Mustang to a point. The early gamble did pay off BUT you know as well as I do you CANNOT let kids shoot totally uncontested shots all day. Theyre wasnt a defender within 4 to 5ft of those NCC players when they were free to jack it up. You have to rotate and at least TRY to contest it the best you can.

It worked for Boone Co against NCC. They didnt guard them at all I heard let them shoot all night long and Boone won. I watched Conner do the same strategy and Conner won. But I have watched NCC twice this year. If you don't have bigs that can slow those two down inside you have to pick your poison. You also have to have a player that can break down NCC man defense and beat someone to force others to help and kick for open shots. If you don't have these two you have very little chance against NCC IMO.

Maybe it worked against Boone Co and Conner but commen sense would tell you IF they start hitting those shots you have to make changes not get down so much where you cant get out of the hole! Im sure when they played Boone and Conner IF NCC wouldve start hitting there shots Boone and Conner wouldve made changes before they got down 10 or 15 points!
