I can. We still have yet to have the 'gay superstar' so the pressure that first one will face is ridiculous. Having to hide it to avoid all that is something he shouldn't have to do but unfortunately our society still isn't ready for that yet.

 

If he is covering up his sexual preference, it seems to me that the cover-up attempt has drawn much more attention than coming out of the closet.

I definitely agree with you there. If he does come out gay he could have done a much better job of hiding it. He's dangerously close to blowing his cover.

 

IMO, that's the ONLY way he can save himself from this. Most will say he deserves sympathy if that's the case (I don't agree, but I'm probably in the minority). If he stays silent, I think he's going to have done irrepairable damage to his image, and probably cost himself millions of dollars in the process.

Indeed it has. His secret is still safe though. For now. The focus now is on if he is the victim or not. Not how deep his relationship with Tuiasosopo is. That has to come up in more detail at some point. They are way too close for it not to.

Agreed. He'd do way more good coming out of the closet now instead of trying to bury it. He'd get a ton of more sympathy that way.

I think that is the point. Most are very tired of the Lance Armstrong "news" and the Te'o story is much more appealing with SO MANY unknowns. All else equal, a Te'o interview would rate much higher than a Lance one today IMO.

If he admits to being gay, I'm telling you, he won't get drafted in the first three rounds. Teams will not want to be the first to throw that grenade into their locker room harmony. Right or wrong, that is the way it is. I wouldn't care about having a gay teammate in the locker room, but I may be in the minority.

Very true. It would be easy to pass him by and blame his performance in the BCS title game as a reason why he wasn't picked high.

Yep. My girlfriend could care less about Lance. Her response to his "coming clean"..."Duh, everyone already knew he cheated."

 

She's not a football fan, but knows who Te'o is from the incessent ESPN coverage of ND football, and she's probably followed the whole thing a lot more closely than I have.
