Previous coach didn't pay much attention or put much effort into the JV and frosh programs. You have to constantly be building your base and for the future. For whatever reason, that didn't happen. He had a nice base coming in.

I'm not sure about this year's enrollment in particular, but I know from people within the KY secondary educational system that it's historically true.

I am assuming that something must have happened that is being kept on the hush, because there is no way he should have been fired for a lack of wins. If I am not mistaken, he had just beat Beechwood and NCC in his second year as a coach. Therefore, I would say through results he had things going the correct direction on the field.

Regarding not paying attention to JV/Frosh...Are you sure your claim is true? Holmes historically has a problem with kids being committed to the program. In addition, he kept continuity with the incoming freshman, by promoting the middle school coach to head jv coach (Coach Cooper)

Don't know if they had Frosh, but we had Holmes on Cooper's early JV schedule then were told they did not "want" to play us - although at the Varsity game they looked to have enough available on the sidelines. Previous year it was supposedly academic eligibility issues the week we had them. If Holmes is up in enrollment, it's the first time in a long time.

I find it interesting that both urban schools, Holmes and Newport have coaching turnover in the same year. I wonder if there was budgetary pressure on the football programs? Anybody else think this may not be coincidence?

I can guarantee you that wasn't the case at Holmes. Athletic budgets are not an issue there. Ask anyone who coaches or plays.
