And the football team was playing at the same time, so that could diminish the numbers some.

Tough loss but I love how well UC plays defense. They are going to have a good year and are going to be a tough out for anyone in the tournament, and if their offense happens to get going a long with it then they could make a deep run.

UC is probably better for losing this game, got the first loss out of the way and gave them something to work from. Will be interesting to see how this team fairs through the big east season.

I , as well, haven't watched them a lot. My concern when I did watch them was their reliance on the jumper. I'm not sure if that's been consistent but it seems like it could be a problem.

Reliance on the jumper has been a problem, but it wasn't the issue last night. Going 9-38 from 2 and missing 21 shots from 10 feet and in turned what should have been a comfortable win into a loss. A good deal of credit there goes to New Mexico for contesting everything, but you have to convert a better clip from that close...

Based on the box score alone, it sure seems likely that SK relied on the jumper too much. 5-22 from the field, 4-13 from deep and only 1-2 from the line.

Bearcats, as a team, only shot 4 free throws. That tells me they're not taking it to the hoop like they should (and are capable of doing).

SK was a little over reliant on his jumper at times last night, but he was the only one. They had 24 shots inside 5 feet and made 6 of them. And the reason they weren't getting to the line is they were soft on most of those 24 attempts. They allowed New Mexico's size to turn easy shots into poor attempts, and the game was allowed to be played very physical down low by the stripes. UC didn't adjust and lost. That simple...

A subtle - or not so subtle - bump by a defender can cause you to miss a gimme if you are not strong enough to withstand it. Perfect example: UK vs. Notre Dame this year.

Exactly. The officials let those bumps go uncalled all night and UC never adjusted to the way the game was being called. Most nights they end up at the line 10-15 times, but that wasn't how the calls went either way. UC attacked the rim plenty, but were soft when they got there...
