It's sad we have to live in an America with armed guards everywhere. I've seen the countries with armed guards as a part of everyday life. They're generally not very pleasant places to live.

2nd...even if they put an armed guard at schools, we still wouldn't have armed guards everywhere.

 

Why don't you like the idea of having a person at the schools, with a weapon, ready to defend the kids/teachers against an armed maniac?

I haven't one. It's a lament for the world in which we live, not a political statement.

 

In the end, it could be an idea I support as, like you suggest, I don't have a sense for anything different that makes practical sense.

:thumb: Outside of officers at sporting events, I can't recall ever being in a place that had armed guards.

I've seen armed guards at the airport, it didn't make me feel apprehensive though. On the contrary, I felt pretty relaxed.

We're not there yet. By necessity there are more armed officers than there used to be in nearly every government building. Now by necessity there are going to be armed guards in schools. I see more people having to be around to protect us all the time. Do I have a better idea? No, as I've already said, because there are always bad people out there looking to do bad things. But the direction in which things seem to be moving doesn't make me jump for joy...

I hate to see ever reducing financial resources spent like this. The most prolific reading club in America will be the School Armed Guards book club. I would much rather have a school administrator, teacher or other employee be trained as the designated "armed guard".

Couldn't agree more.

A: Mechanically there is nothing different between an assault weapon and a hunting rifle so it is a slippery slope.

 

B: Just putting armed guards everywhere is a not too viable. But for 'well known' gun free zones like schools more proactive security is needed in some form.
